Warez download as 'demo'

Whether or not the reality of GP3 (on the 28th) meets the expectations
of simracers worldwide after low these many years of waiting, I think
its fair to treat any warez version as a demo! I dont agree with all
this hyper-loyalty business towards Hasbro OR Geoff Crammond, not in
these days when games like F12000 are released (rushed out the door
because of $$ to be made) with many problems. After this alleged 4
years of GP3 development ***I think they could have afforded to take
perhaps 6 months of that on a demo(!?)..  no, not having a demo is a
marketing 'strategy' and its a strategy I respect less than downloading
a warez game.

Is it dumb to judge GP3 on a warez version? Probably. But without an
official demo thats what you're liable to get. I've seen the EA Sports
reaction to F12k criticisms and I'd say that Hasbro/GC are about as
equally caring about their fanbase (based on the months/years leading
up to GP3 and the fact that online racing wasnt even attempted. And we
STILL cant hear the other cars in GP3??) If you imagine you're anything
else other than a paycheck for EA/Hasbro your a fool. I hear the West
brothers have already promised a WSC demo at some point. GPL had
Watkins Glen. NASCAR3 had a demo. DTR and Rally Championship had demos,
and so did Toca2 and CMR. Isnt your potential money worth a
demo??????

great post. I think the lack of a demo for any game is a GIANT red flag.

I disagree with your justification for getting the warez version, but I
totally agree about the lack of a demo. Think back to that first GPL
demo - at the time, I had a P120 with no 3D card, and it went
(literally) at about 1 fps. And I was *still* e***d.

It's unforgiveable for a game like this not to have a demo *well*
before publication, and all it does is: a) encourage people to get
warez versions; and b) make people suspicious about how good the game
really is.

If you want a GP3 demo, load up GP2 and try
it, because GP3 is at least 90% exactly the
same as GP2.

The lack of a demo IS the (or one) justification for downloading the
warez version. F12000 didnt have a demo either, but I remember many
complaints of the warez F12k players *did* hold up after the final
version came out. For example the framerates were still terrible and
there was still evidence that the game was flung out the door by EA way
too early. I have a fansite for F12k that sits there like an abandoned
car..  because by the time I got my hands on a playable(sic) version of
F12k I was already invested in the website and was just hoping F12k
would get better. It didnt get better. In fact we found even more
things wrong!

Its a crime to keep developers and publishers from their money by
making a habit of warez but its a worse crime (in the opinion of my
wallet) to let yourself be taken in by developers and publishers and
buying a game that is of poor relative quality. And what can you do???
Every publisher says his game is superior and breaks new ground (most
of the time they just break new wind.) And you buy it because you didnt
have a chance to demo it first. What simracer would have believed
NFS/Porsche was any good if it werent for that demo? Codemasters used
the demo for Toca2 to get suggestions from us, and I know it because I
was there and they used more than one of our suggestions. I got an
email from one of the West brothers a couple of months ago 'out of the
blue' because he heard from Thomas Enterprises I might have some useful
suggestions for WSC (I told him he probably had heard everything by
then- but to make the game fansite friendly!) In what ways has Hasbro
or Crammond gotten involved in what WE wanted to see in GP3? How many
posts from Hasbro employees have you seen in GP3 forums?  ..and now no
demo!

Anyway..   :-)

I think it'll do more than that. Unfortunately it won't meet the demands of
RAS:-)
