***Need for speed demo--Don't download!!!

Hi folks,

I just tried to play the demo copy of Electronic Arts'
"Need for Speed" that I got from their web site (www.ea.com).
My advice is don't bother to try to download it, the
file is 29MB in size and once you get it you can't play
it because the directory structure of the game is all
messed up.  I tried to unravel the puzzle from the error
messages that it gave me, but to no avail.  They also
have a 3MB demo that suffers from the same problem.  I
hope the full version on CD gets its act together because
this is going to be one totally awesome sim. with svga
graphics (if you have a P90+), real engine sounds sampled
from the actual sports cars, and lots of tracks and
roads to drive on.

BTW--I don't work for EA, I just like racing games.

I haven't seen the demo archive, but if it happens to be a PKZIP file,
did you use the -D option (which creates a directory structure)?  I
seem to remember a while back when the NASCAR demo was doing the
rounds, loads of people forgot this.  So, for instance if the file was
called NFS.ZIP, you'd type:

    PKUNZIP -D NFS.ZIP

Try it, it may save you wasting a 29Mb download :-)

It's an arcade/sim type game and you get to drive cars like a
Corvette ZR-1, Porsche 911 Carrera, Dodge Viper RT/10, Toyota Supra
Turbo, Mazda RX-7, etc.  It was made with all the stats from Road &
Track.  It's been out on 3DO for a while.  It's cool.

Yes, unfortunately I did try that and they definitely
messed up when they zipped.  I would hate to let that
ruin my enthusiasm for this game if it is indeed as
cool as it looks.
