Need for speed demo download failure

by Fab » Tue, 06 May 2003 03:40:47

I read a few posts that said this game was worth looking at, so I've tried
to d/l the demo. But no matter where I d/l from I get the same problem: the
file LFS_DT_0_2A.ZIP should be about 47MB, and the d/l time matches this,
but when I look at the file I've recieved, its reported size is always too
small and Winzip reports that it is corrupt.

Is it me?

Does anyone know if this demo has been published on a UK magazine coverdisk?
Haven't seen it on PC Gamer.

The program is called "Live for Speed". :-)  You didn't say where you are
downloading from but have you tried http://lfs.racesimcentral.com/ yet?  I
just tried it again and had no problems opening it with WinRar.  If you can
get it, make sure to download a Patch for it too.  People are currently
using both Patch C and Patch D because D just came out and there are a few
bugs.  You will see different online servers available depending on which
Patch you're using.  Patch C is available at www.lfs-league.com

Hi Chris

Sorry, I meant to put Live for Speed - typo

I just d/l the file from http://lfs.racesimcentral.com/ as you suggested.Yet
again the file shrank to 26MB after the d/l  completed, and Winzip reports
"file does not appear to be a valid archive". WinRar fails too, saying
"unexpected end of archive". This is getting bizarre!

I'm running XP Pro and saving to a FAT 32 drive. No other downloaded file
has ever shown this behaviour. wtf?

You may have to use a program to help you download the files.  There are 2
free programs that i've heard of: Getright and Download Accelerator Plus.
They are especially useful for 56k modem users as they allow you to interupt
and then later resume a download.
Hope this helps you as LFS is an excellent sim.

Nice try D, but I'm on 1MB broadband! Tried to download twice more. Even
tried download to different drive. Next thing is to try download to a
friend's machine and see if problem persists.

Problem solved. Downloaded to friend's machine and moved it over on a CD.
I'll never know why I couldn't download to my own machine. Oddly enough, I
*did* download the patch successfully!
