Hey, all.

WTF is the popping sound that the cars (including mine) make when they're up
to speed?  It sounds like a person tapping on a tin can or something.
Completely rediculous.  At first I thought I had damaged the engine or
something, but it happens at *every* track, *every* time.

Please, make it stop!

It's called a rev-limiter,  and it kicks in then you OVER-rev the engine!
If you hear that sound when your in top gear - your gearing is too low....
(or high - dending upon what way you want to look at it.)

Ed,

No, I know what the limiter sounds like.  This is totally different.
Happens at all speeds, with all cars (even when going by in replays), on all
tracks.  Just imagine running 6000rpm at 'Dega and having a sound (like
hitting a tin can) repeat randomly every 2 seconds or so.

For example, I was in the garage at 'Dega during a practice session, and as
I heard other cars pass (vroom, vroom), I also heard the popping (tink,
tink, clunk, etc.).  It came and faded with the cars, and was even affected
by Doppler.

Am I the only one with this sound?!

I have the same problem with the sblive.  Try disabling 3d positional sound
and EAX.  It gave my FPS a big boost and killed the popping sounds.

Did you by any chance get married, recently? ;-)

Hi John,

could it be the plastic spoiler touching the asphalt?

I think its supposed to be the rev limiter.
