New CART Sim on horizon?

New CART Sim on horizon?

by Jr Bill » Sat, 25 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Anyone heard if Sierra is planning on doing anything with a CART racing sim? Is
any company planning a CART sim? It just suddenly struck me with all this end
of the decade stuff that ICR2 was based on a season 5 years ago. CART may be
having troubles in marketability, but is it so bad that they can't even get a
decent sim made.

Cheers,
Eric Brighton

They have also lost their name sponsor (PPG), and Gurney's team.  There is
a lot of pressure.

AFAIK Papyrus is out of the CART business.  No plans whatsoever for
making another CART title.  Cart has awarded thier license to another
publisher(sorry I'm blank right now on who that is, but trust me, it's
bad news) that specializes in "arcade" type games.  We may see a really
nice looking title from them, but I would be really really really
suprised if even the tiniest amount of sim was in whatever they release.
Gurney's team is lacking sponsorship right now..which is a shame cuz
he was getting FORD power this year and that could have made all the
difference in his sucess.
With Jr gone and no yellow beak'ed Eagles to root for, I'm kinda
confused whose gonna be my "favorite" from now on.  :}

Well if no CART sim is on the horizon, how about an IRL one ???

To my knowledge there has only been one sim on this series, and it was a
game plagued by bugs with AI and such...

I've heard that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the IRL have signed an
agreement with a game co. but haven't seen thing one about new titles in the
works...

No new Cart sim is being planned by  Papyrus as far as we know. GPLs
poor sales killed off any chance of a open will sim based on the GPL engine.
Papyrus is busy working on Nas4 and the truck expansion pack.

Stephen,

The Cart series is now called the Fed Ex championship.  The trophy still
carried the name of the PPG Cup.

Dave,

Yea, the news ain't good. But come join me as a Team Kool Fan.

The only prayer we have for a Cart sim at this point is if Randy
Krammer & co. decides to do a proper Cart carset.  I realize that the cars
will still be '67 F1 cars, but al least the graphics will be correct.

With new track converter that David Noonan is working on,we will have
all those ICR2 and Nas3 tracks, and then hopefully, someone will do some of
the current tracks missing.

     Well, it's better than nothing.

Then I won't have to work about spending more hard-earned money.  Not on the
truck pack, anyway...

Eldred,

Better save up your pennies. The Trans-Am sim is coming out this spring.
Then there is GP3.

Sure, I'll believe it when I *see* it.<g>  Actually, I probably won't get the
T/A sim right when it comes out.  I'll wait for the price to drop a bit.
GP3...That's a toss-up.  It depends on if I hear enough good things about it.
Otherwise, I'll wait 'til the price on that drops, too.
