Tracks-NASCAR2 to Rendition ICR2

by Jim Keyto » Wed, 05 Feb 1997 04:00:00

HI,
I tried converting two NASCAR2 tracks to ICR2 (Rendition Version)...the
conversion process and AI update appeared to function properly. But, when I
go to ICR2 and try to load the tracks...it advises that I do not have
enough memory to load the track. Checking the track files...these two
tracks are not the largest. So..have I done something wrong...or is there
something else I need to change. Any help or comments?

Also, has anyone been able to get ICR2 (Rendition) to run from the Win95
desktop in a dos box. Right now I run it from the desktop by shutting down
to dos then loading the game. When I try to run it in a dos box it locks up
with a black screen and the color sparkles across the top. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

I'm just guessing here: I don't imagine that anyone has yet
reverse-engineered the "new" graphics object format which N2 uses.
(For background, N1, ICR2, and ICR1 used pretty much exactly the same
graphics pipeline and object format. We completely re-wrote the
graphics pipeline for N2, in order to "catch up" somewhat and to allow
us to support more modern machines and hardware accelerators in N2 and
future products.)

So, while the tracks might appear to convert OK, in reality, they
probably didn't...

As far as running ICR2 from WIN95, I do it from an Icon, but not really
in a DOS box.  What I do is select "MS-DOS mode" from the
properties/program/advanced menu along with use existing MS-DOS
configuration.  This seems to restart your computer in MS-DOS mode just
like the button, and then runs ICR2 just fine.  When you exit ICR2, it
will go back to WIN95 automatically.  This isn't real fast, but seems to
get great performance and adds some convenience.  It also works for N1,
Multi, N2, N2 (Renddma), etc.  Hope this helps.
