How many tracks in the enhanced IndyCar2 are "rendition-ready"? I
had heard that there are only 5 available out of 16? Also, out of all
the 3D cards out there (Intergraph, Screamin'3D, Creative Labs, Total3D)
that are Verite, which is the best?

Thanks,
Scott

5...Laguna, Michigan, Portland, Elkhart, and Phoenix.  The biggest
difference (visually) will be the inclusion of clouds for the optimized
tracks, while the other tracks (including converted NASCAR tracks
and Indy) will benefit from anti-alaising.

The Canopus card benchmarks higher than the others, with the Sierra
following close behind, and Intergraph being slightly faster than the
Blaster.  Bios plays an important part, but the main reason is in the
card's drivers.

This begs the obvious question:  with regards to the BIOS and drivers
of the various cards,  can the BIOS/drivers from one card be used with
another card?  I have the Blaster, and if the Canopus BIOS/drivers are
faster, would they work with my card?  And, if so, where can I find
these drivers (just did a Lycos search on Canopus and didn't find
anything relevant).

Thanks in advance,

Yes you can use the other cards' BIOS and drivers, but it's not that
easy to do anymore.  Since Canopus hasn't posted their BIOS, you'd have
to use Sierra's.  Unfortunately they have replaced their original BIOS
upgrade with a new version that will only install on a Sierra card.
Without this BIOS, you can't use the drivers.  It's not that big of a
deal anyway, as the Canopus/Sierra drivers aren't really that much
faster than the others.  The only real improvements come in Win95 2D
stuff like text scrolling and moving windows (event then it only
benches about a 10-20% improvement, not too noticeable in real-world
use), but DirectDraw and Direct3D performance are nearly unchanged.

AFAIK, the Canopus bios and drivers are card-specific, and can't be used
with the other Rendition cards.  I do think you can use the Intergraph
bios
and drivers and get a slight edge over your blaster.

Intergraph can be found at:

Canopus can be found at the following URL:

Excerpts from netnews.rec.autos.simulators: 24-Feb-97 Re: ICR2 Rendition

I am running the Intergraph Intense 3D flashed with the Sierra BIOS and
using the Canopus drivers.  Runs much quicker now ;).  And the display
controls for the Canopus set of drivers are MUCH better than
Intergraph's.
