Hi

I have a Microsoft ForceFedback Wheel.
I'm getting a new PC with Win XP installed.
Do I still have to use Sidewinder software........ and if so, what is the
best version to download?

Thanks

John,

if you have the soundcard/joystick port version, you will play hell getting
XP to make it work.    But if it is USB, you install the 4.0 I think it is,
software (xp will install drivers on its own) even though SETUP will tell
you your installing on 2000 and that it might not work.

Both of my wheels said the same warning, and they are different programs
that get installed...

PS.. im not at home & that is the version I have for the NON FF wheel Im
positive about that, BTW I have BOTH wheels right now FF, and non FF.  both
are USB.

Slightly of the subject but, I was wondering what the performance hit is for
using usb ff wheel. I currently have the game port version. I did try a usb
ver, some time ago on win98 and it had quite a hit on the game.

Yes, you do.

There is no download.  The only version there is is the one that came with
the wheel.

Don't lose it.  You cannot re-download it from anywhere either.

Oh, I assumed you have the USB version.

If you have the GamePort version there is no sidewinder software available
and never will be.  The gameport version is extremely limited in XP/2K and
will only work in basic mode with no programming available.

And some games won't work with the GamePort version under 2K/XP it at all.

Never really noticed any, but you don't really have a choice.

David,

I would speculate that the computer that had a "hit" when using USB was
probably one that had other issues plus USB issues that arent widespread
knowledge, but a few companies toss computers together (and mainboards) with
"features" just so they can list them in the ads/search engines.  That is
just FYI.  (Im pointing at hp/acer/compaq) of machines from the p2-p3 era...
still I have seen some new HP's that just dont work right...
