by Doob » Wed, 05 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I cant get the game to run with my Geforce.  When i go  to the 3D
setup it lists Nvidia v10 or something when i change from Voodoo 2
then when i start the game i can get into the menus and change
resolution and everything but,

The game then crashes to the desktop.  hmmm. any solutions to this
i have the latest detonator drivers from Nvidia running on a Creative
Geforce DDR??

Taken from the EA tech support website (http://www.ea.com/tech_support/):

"The original drivers made for the Nvidia GeForce card are not compatible
with Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed. There are newer BETA drivers on the
game CD that will allow NFS:PU to run properly. They are located in the
Drivers/Nvidia folder. You should also check with NVIDIA's web site
(HTTP:\\www.nvidia.com) for the latest information and drivers available for
the GeForce card. With video drivers other than those located on the disc,
it may be possible that the game won't play at all."

The game comes with Nvidia reference drivers version 3.77 on the CD.
These are the only ones that will work with the game.
This is bizarre since Nvidia haven't even released these drivers yet as they
are still in beta.
I was running 3.68 (latest official version from Nvidia) and upped to 3.77.
I've had no problems in any other games, and NFSPU runs like a dream.

It runs absolutely great with 5.13 as well; it also made GPL work well
on my system in 640x480 (but not higher :( ) when it barely worked
before at all. All the other games seem to like these drivers too. Buyer
beware: They aren't even beta, just leaked.

Oh yeah, don't forget to turn fog emulation on.

I got it working using the beta drivers only.

Before then it just froze up.

Good Luck.
