Freak IndyCar Incident (bug?)

Freak IndyCar Incident (bug?)

I have never had a single bug or problem of any kind with
IndyCar, so I hesitate to call this a bug, but it was
definitely weird:

I was racing at Michigan (during a champ season).  I had the
pole against a field of 32 others.  Shortly after the start
(2-3 laps) I was way out in front just heading into turn one
at about 230 or so when suddenly SMACK!  The car hit some sort
of invisible wall (I was right in the middle of the track!), lost
two wheels and went flying  BACKWARDS spinning like crazy.

Looking at the replay, it is just that:  I hit nothing, but my car
was sent rocketting in the opposite direction until I collided
with oncomming traffic.  There was also an accompanying 'tweak'
of the sound effects right when this happend (kind of a screech)...

Anyway, I saved the replay and will try to upload it to
144.92.30.243 or ftp.std.com   or I will post it to this
newsgroup (or I will also send it to anyone that asks for it).
It's kinda big (over 600k compressed) and covers the whole
3 and a half minutes of the race.

Anyway, I'm interested to hear if anyone has had any such
'phantom' collisions -- Like I said, I have never had ANY (no
matter how small) problems with any version of ICR.
If you care, I am using:  Cyrix 486DLC-40, 8 Megs ram, Sound
Blaster (creative labs).

sorry - no uploads to 144.92.30.243 unless I let you ;-)

600kb is a lot and I have only 5 megs free right now. About the accident:
I had a similar inicident in Toronto, when my car just bounced with no
reason intot he wall. Replay showed that I hit an invisible wall. Never
happened again. Must be a bug.

I noticed that if you brush the end of the pit wall separating track from
pit road, you sometimes get propelled into a wild spin, although it's
physically impossible. Most of the time things run well, though. I
haven't had such an incident with 1.04 yet, but that doesn't mean it may
not happen again.

anybody ever notice any weird position changes under yellow when in modem
play?

Yeah.  I was cruising along at the 100mph yellow limit
when my car started accelerating wildly.  I was able to
come back up through the rear of the field and take the
front spot again.  Other times I was back in the pack
under yellow when the whole field slowed to a stop, led
by the other human driver.  Turns out the game was waiting
for me to retake the lead!  Go figure...

Diving into the pit lane under yellow also messes with
the AI, allowing you to speed up and take another lap
from the field.

Things that make you go hmmmm.

Yes, the yellow flag was your friend that day. Not to mention the screwed
AI of the 'puter during the yellers.

A friend and I were driving at Laguna in modem play the other day (I think
we were just running in Warmup).  There was no yellow and I believe there
were no other cars on the track.  He was just ahead of me (maybe two car
lengths).  Suddenly his car just disappeared.  I heard his "what the ..."
(two phone lines).  He had been "transported" out into the weeds.  He said
he was on the "other" side of the grandstand.  Eventually he made his way
back onto the track and we had no more problems.  It was very peculiar.

I had a similar happening while running v1.04 (no modem hookup -- single
player mode) at Laguna Seca during Qualifying.  I think I was just past
the corckscrew when BLAM, my car was destroyed.  Didn't run into anybody
or anything.  There were a few cars ahead, but well enough ahead.  When I
did the replay frame by frame, I was WAY up in the sky looking down at
the track (this was at the moment of BLAM). Did someone set a ***y-trap?

I do have the replay saved if anyone is interested...
