I think they did raise the bar quite a bit. Case in point being Bristol (or
any track, but I went to BMS first). I was able to drive a race, very
competitively and happily moments after installing the game. The only thing
I did was select the fast setup from the garage menu. With the new Adaptive
AI I really was in the thick of it immediately. I had an absolute blast,
great framerate, and became totally hooked on this game.
I began to think of myself as Dale Jr. Junior.
Then I noticed that Traction control, Anti-lock brakes and all the other
helpful "cheats" were turned on. Opponent Strength was 70%. A little
balloon bursting there. Oh well, turn it all off, turn the opponents back
to about 90% and I was right back to my usual self, a lame wannabe driver :)
Phew!!! I thought for a moment Papy had lost it. Now I can get to working
on my setup, (and using the amazingly helpful driving line display) and
getting better little by little.
And yes, when I get a little frustrated at my lack of ability to move up the
leader board... on go the "cheats" and I'm back to rubbin with Dale Jr
again!!!!
What a great mix and a great idea - Adaptive AI - Well done.
This is going to be a standard for a few years, I think. The graphics are
crisp and fast, sound is great, and the playability ranges from novice
newbie to serious sam. What could make it better? Well, they could get one
of the Labonte brothers to swing by the house and show me some tricks...
but this is the real world...
