What's the best F1 sim right now?  I figure since I cant watch it (no Speed
Channel :( ) I can still drive it ;)

I've seen F1 2001 mentioned, though one of my online friends says it
sucks... maybe he doesnt know what he's talking about.  Plus, that Sports
Car mod for it looks really nifty.

GP3?

the Ubisoft one?

Thanks,
Brian

Agree.

F1 2001 is what F12K should have been and while not perfect (hey it's not
GPL :) ) it's pretty good.

Add the FIA GT mod to F1 2001 when you get bored of F1 cars and hang on!!

F1 2001 is EXCELLENT! Its by far the best F1 sim. The GT mod is incredible
too. The new Nascar Racing 2002 Season by Papyrus is pretty good too. Make
sure you have a high powered computer and video card to run them. If not
then you might pick up GP3 instead..

What kind of horsepower are we talking here?  I currently have a P3 733, 256
megs ram, and a GeForce 2 GTS 32 meg card.  That enough for some reasonable
graphics settings?

I think if this is good, I'll get it.  What are the best graphical updates
for it (other than the GT one... just wondering about F1 related addons)?

Thanks!

Oh just wanted to add real quick... by reasonable graphics I'm talking
800x600 16bit or 32 bit color, near full details :)

Your comp. is well enough to play F1-2001. I play on a lowly Cel450
with a GF1DDR and can max out the graphics at 1024x768x32 and still
get playable fps, never or seldom drops below 30. I just adjust down a
couple of notches on the graphics and drive from the nosecam and
presto; 45+fps!

I'd say that the talk of F1-2001 needing a hefty rig is a bit
overstated. It's quite alright if only you have a T&L capable graphics
card. GPL is much, much worse! At least on the CPU-side.

I just tried NR2002 and that was draining though. The graphics card
seems alright, I can use 1024x768x32 with no apparent problembut even
when hotlapping on the Glen it drops to ~20fps(OTOH 20fps is somewhat
playable as oppose to anything under 30-32 in GPL). But with 10 cars
in view it's down to atrocious levels... :( You'd probably have better
with a stronger CPU but I guess 2 times atrocious equals at least
pretty bad. :-)

My only reservation about F1 2001 would be the fact that both GP4 AND F1
2002 should be out in May.  Most of the bigger stores have discounted F1
2001 to around $20.  If you can find it for that price then ok, but since we
don't know how either GP4 or 2002 will be received yet, it might be good
insurance.

Then you cannot have many competitors.
I have a Cel466, 512mb Ram, Geforce 2 Ti and I honestly think you are
dreaming theese numbers.
I get 30 fps MAX.

What are the good graphics addons to download?  I've seen some shots over at
simbin, and they look a lot better than the default screenshots I've seen.
The cars do anyway.

Brian

No problem...get it!

It ran fine on my 750, 128Mb, GF2 MX 32Mb, before I overclocked it.

Nope, no dreaming over here. But then again I'm mostly hotlapping, but
those few AI races I've run went OKish.

Try driving from nosecam, the fps can double in certain occasions!!

Edit: Ok, Starting at the back of the grid isn't with 20 cars in front
isn't something I've done.  That could certainly be really bad, I'm
sure... I'm not so hot on AI-racing anyway... :-/

I just had to add that the GT cars suck down things a LOT, though.
They are alot more polygon heavy. I've only tried a couple of races
with the GT-mod and it wasn't particularily good(the fps, not the
mod).

There isnt a particularly good one.

The Ubisoft one looks nice, F12001 is all round average, GP3 is crap.  The
online code of F12001 is appauling  - but the GT mod is good.

Of the lot - F12001 is the least ***- but it's not great by any stretch of
the imagination

It's either F1 2001 from EA, or F1RC from UbiSoft...
I prefer F1RC over F1 2001 because it has better Multiplayer,
has the most accurate tracks, and the cars handle more realisticly I
think.  (It's not super easy to go flat out through Eau Rouge At Spa
in the Dry or Wet...)

hi Carl

I have the same CPU as yours and was thinking
of upgrading TNT 1 to GF2Ti

what do you recommend ?

what sort of framerates are you getting on N4 full
field race?
do you use FSAA and which one is playable x4 or x2

my biggest complaint now is I am playing with a lot
less graphic options
but they are playable 16~36/800 x 600 (  N4 ) , losing
track side objects
and putting up with jaggies

what other games do you play?
flight sims?
