3D Blaster and it really made a big diffence in hi-res - it flies! The
frame rate is very good and the sensation of speed - high speed - is
great. Ran it on a AMD486-120 and also my P133 VLB/PCI system - the
P133 system was even better, the smoothest imaginable, and very fast
gameplay. (should run almost this good on 486-160 also, from the
benchmarks I've seen). Running Whiplash in hires (no patch) on a
P166/EDO/PB256C/Millenium is also great, but is actually not as smooth
as the 3D/P133. The big difference is the the sensation of fluid high
speed motion (ie. at 160mph) - the very high P166 framerate is a
little jittery, while the 3D ported version uses 3D chip functions to
reduce peripherial screen resolution (causing a blurring effect near
the bottom and sides of screen) and other tricks which more accurately
reproduces reality. In all cases mentioned above, I left the texures
on but turned most of the other (mostly unimportant) stuff off to get
the best results. Whiplash is really a blast to drive, and in hi-res
it is pure heaven because you can really appreciate the great
graphics/textures maps.
