I've just added the Diamond Monster 3D to my Sierra Screamin 3D
expecting to get the beautiful performance playing NFS2SE as I get with
ICR2 and NASCAR2 with the Sierra. But I can't seem to turn on 3DFX on
NFS2SE. I can play Tomb Raider in either Rendition or 3DFX (which makes
an interesting comparison in performance) but I can't get 3DFX to work
with NFS2SE. Do I need a patch of some sort to turn this on?

I have the same combination in my system and I had lots of problems when I
had Sierra's drivers installed. D3D games would almost always crash back to
Windows or lock up when I tried to start a game.  The cure for me was
installing the Rendition drivers that come with DirectX 5. After doing this
I had not conflicts anymore.

I don't know if this will help you but its a chance.  Good luck.

You need to install the 3dfx version of NFS2SE that come with your CD, and
make sure you have glide 2.43 driver.  Tomb Raider is a D3D game, while
NFS2SE is a glide game.

You have to install the 3dfx version from the CD. It is a different
executable.

Thanks to all who replied to me on the above. It's running great now.
I'm amazed at the expertise on this ng that can give better support than
the hardware and software manufacturers themselves.

I realize the tradeoff of giving up the detailed dashboards for the
performance of 3DFX. But should I, one day, want to see these dashboards
again, is there a way to switch off 3DFX temporarily without another
complete reload?
