Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 - force feedback only works in the first race

by NightSky 42 » Tue, 21 Oct 2003 01:04:47

I have a Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP wheel with the latest 4.25
drivers installed.  When playing Hot Pursuit 2, I only get force feedback
effects for the very first race I play after loading the game.  There are no
force feedback effects at all after that unless I exit and re-start the
game.  I cannot find any patches on the web for Hot Pursuit 2 and am simply
running the version that came out of the box.  All my other games including
Need For Speed 3 and Porsche Unleashed are working fine with force feeback
(except that maybe Porsche Unleashed does not do much for collisions).
Thanks for any help.

My wheel would be very loose for the first race and then a little
tighter for each subsequent race.  I preferred the tighter feel so it
wasn't too bad.

There is a beta patch for HP2.  Go to

http://www.eagames.com/official/nfs/hotpursuit2/us/

It's in the bottom-right corner.  Not sure if it addresses this issue
though.

Funny, I noticed the *exact* same thing.  I prefer a "tighter" wheel as
well.

Thanks for the reply and link.  I will at least check it out.

I tried the 242 but my Logitech Momo USB still feels sort of sloppy
compared to older NFS racers.

Things don't look too promising when you consider the date of the beta
patch.  Heh, I have to laugh in a way that Need For Speed 3, which is five
years old now, has better and less buggy force feedback support than last
year's Hot Pursuit 2!

The big difference is that the PC version of NFS:HP2 is a lazy port of an
Xbox game. There are a few of those games around.

The PS2 version of the game has much nicer steering wheel controls and much
better force feedback.

The xbox doesn't have force feedback support, so something was kinda hacked
on for the pc version.

Kind of a common event nowadays...

Anyway, who let an NFS thread into rec.autos.simulators? :D

Is it?  Hmm...I'll have to load that again.
So many games...so little time(or money).  One day, I'm going to put my entire
collection up for sale.  Buying so many games in the past is one of the reasons
I'm broke NOW.

Just tried the new NFS Underground demo for PC. Force feedback with a
Logitech wheel is terrific!! Nothing to do with the previous version!
Looks like they re-write the wheel support every time...
