Yes, and let's continue to discuss these nuances ad infinitum, ad nauseaum,
thereby wasting far more space than posting the "wrong" thing here to begin

Anyway, Hard Truck 2 has helicopter chasing (and even road mines) but it's still a truck sim.

... and here have Eep, cross-posting and finally giving r.a.s. some quality
laughs.

I don't remember any helicopters at all, let alone chasing me. <shrug>
There is a helicopter in NFS PU (Alps), but it doesn't seem to chase
anything.
You can hear it, but you might have to leave the road a bit to have a good
look at it.

(whatever that means since there are other sims in arcades that are MORE
realistic, but still sims. Does Pole Position count as a sim? I say yes. Of
course, compared to Grand Prix it's pure shit but still no less of a sim,
just less "simulistic" than the GP et al series.
NFS isn't aiming at a *** audience, I guess that's why it isn't
considered a sim. It's aimed for a wider audience. *** racing sims
are for the people that drop 200 dollars for a racing wheel. Mainstream
racing games seem to feature "real" street cars, and the sims are more about
racing.
Of course, with flight sims you have less complex sims and survey sims and
they are still considered "sims". ATF, Janes WWII fighters, Comanche 4,
Jetfighter, Eurofighter Typhoon, etc. They are characterized by simplified
avionics and weapons systems and forgiving flight models. Why there's a
different standard for driving games, who knows? That's just the way it is.
You bring up an interesting point about Pole Position. Back then, the
hardware was a big limitation, so it would be hard to distinguish between
realistic sim and arcade game. Even with Need For Speed 4, how much of the
limitations are because the physics model was designed to run on a slow CPU,
and how much is intentional? It's only relatively recently with the faster
CPU's that flight sims have gotten to the point where they can fudge certain
things less (stalls have become more realistic, for instance, there are more
"6 degrees of freedom" flight models), and you get much more realistic
flight behavior. Just look at GTA 3, it's got much more realistic physics
than even the earlier Need For Speeds.

Regardless, it simply doesn't matter; NFS series is still a sim...just not as MUCH a sim as some other series. <shrug> Get the *** over it, sim fanboy.

Sorry, but that's just not true. Trust me, we know more about this on
r.a.s. then anybody else.
No.

And for the fanboy record, I don't like sims. This, however, is awesome.
You shouldn't be so quick to kill this thread. If it keeps going long
enough someone's sure to agree with you.

Hah, it is a joke. Once I saw it fly right into and THROUGH a mountain!
