Seeing as I was born somewhere near the end of 1970 I was wondering if some
of you older dogs could tell me why Chevy isn't in Nascar Legends I know on
Speedvision at some point I have seen Monte Carlo's (between 70-72 style) in
footage of stock car races but I never payed attention to the year, Also
someone told me Camaros where used as well. If there was and they just
weren't included, does anyone know where I could find info on modeling a new
body style for Nascar.

GM had pulled out of motorsports for a period, including the 1970
season.  No Camaros that I'm aware of.

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

Pardon me for this spotty recollection, but I recall reading that NASCAR
tried a sort of 'NASCAR Lite' kind of thing for a short while in the 70s
that used pony cars.  They weren't racing against the Grand Nationals,
though.

This info, the source of which I cannot recall, came as a suprise to me.  I
was born in 1960 and I remember a lot of what happened in NASCAR in the 60s,
but this totally escaped my attention.  Then again, there wasn't exactly a
lot of media coverage of NASCAR back then and there was certainly no font of
info such as the 'net.

Anyone have any recollection of this?

NASCAR tried to run the modifieds as full bodied cars in the 70's. And they
created some big time super speedway races for the division as well.
Daytona, Pocono (the big track) and Dover. But with a large percentage of
the drivers coming from the Northeast, and with the prospects of teams
needing at least two cars (short track and superspeedway) the idea was
allowed to die a quick death. But we did see full bodied camaro's running
under the NASCAR banner. It was at this time that the Late Great Richie
Evans set fast time at Daytona, I think he was the first person over 200Mph.
I never got to see a super speedway modified race, but people I have told me
it was wild. They even tried running these full bodied modifieds on the road
course at Daytona.... but like I said... this idea was allowed to die
quickly and quietly.
Other Camaro's in NASCAR during that time period. I think there was a Grand
American division. Basically a late model type car, but you have to remember
at that time the Late Models (known now as the Busch Grand National) had to
run the larger mid size body. (Chevelle, Nova, Dart, Fairlane.). But again
NASCAR killed this division. For much the same reason as the super speedway
modifieds, local guys just couldn't afford to support a series like this,
and there was no outside money so that these guys could be professional.
