Why do some of you continue to say that GPL is the best sim ever?

If I had to choose between a Shelby Cobra 427 sim or a Ferrari Modena
sim, I'd choose the Cobra everytime, small chassis, big engine cars
are simply a blast to drive.
atleast thats my belief ;-)
But it's not a military helicopter sim. So, i don't like it!
I don't think GPL is the best sim ever.

No need, I got a feeling you're going to get away with it.

For me, N4 doesn't get any play time for one simple reason: Online Racing
is lackluster.
I think the primary problem in online racing with NASCAR style racing is you
spend a whole lot of time racing side by side, nose to tail, etc and the
connection quality and collision detection has to be extremely strong. With
GPL, although of course you want the same, you can get away with a bit more
since you are not spending as much time side by side and in as close of
contact as you are in 'stock car' racing. Racing GPL allows for a more
'authentic' experience I think.
That being said, For me, N4 online racing doesn't work for the following
reasons:
1) Damage model is still lacking fairly badly
2) Dedicated server does not give you the ability to create races at will on
available servers (Owners should have this option)
For Offline racers, there are also continuing issues with the AI and no save
race feature. I don't race much offline, so this isn't really an issue for
me.
The availability of quality servers is not really an issue. There are
numerous solid servers available to host races. However, many of them will
sit there with no racing because nobody but the admin/bosses can
create/change races or people have to just race what's there. The typical
races at Daytona, Dega, C***te, Michigan and the other cookie cutter
tracks. I won't even get into the issue of abusive and vindictive
administrators or bosses.
N4 has alot of strong features, and I really like the driving model itself.
However, take out certain aspects out of the 'racing' part (Like flipping
and running into the wall, pull in pits and 90 seconds later you are running
without any problems), and it's just another 'game'. It's sort of like
HEAT. HEAT had some great aspects.. but I certainly don't want to run
online with no flags and only 15 cars. How do you run a 'serious' league
with no flags? The other side is N4 where getting in a wreck does not have
many consequences and thus does not give enough penalty to influence safer
racing. Go gung ho... it won't hurt you that much.

N4 is the best racing sim ever, but GPL is the best driving sim ever for me.
Well, until I can race my GPL tracks with N4.

Why isn't N4 the best driving sim ever for you?

Because, GPL is more challenging (in terms of me vs. the track). You can't
compare doing rounds around Dover with trying to beat your best lap at
Rouen. The fact that it has 7 chassis X 3 car types really helps also the
challenge. N4 is still a much superior racing sim.

I agree, and D Kaemmer also agrees, that N4 is a better simulation than GPL,
but it's not a thrill to play.
I think it IS...

I'd prefer to watch Touring cars or Trans-Am or such. =)
