Does anyone know how a person can buy a copy of Interstate 76 or a
nitro pak or something like that they made a few years back that had
the original 76 and some more? Or perhaps you have one you would like
to sell? I read that you find them in bargain bins now but I have had
no luck finding one.

Thanks

I reinstalled it a couple of months ago but you really need a
retro-machine to run this gem.. in D3D I got all sort of gfx problems

I have a copy of it I can sell you if you really want it. Mine has been sat
on the shelf for some 3 years doing nothing.

There's a pile of them on EBay, typically about $6.00. The one you're looking for is
"Interstate 76 Arsenal", which included Interstate 76 Gold Edition (the "Gold" basically
meant added 3D support) plus Nitro Pack for Interstate 76 - added missions & stuff. Check
http://www.activision.com/games/arsenal/main.html for more details.

It's worth chasing down. A lot of fun, even the game installer was well done - it had a
faux radio report that helped establish the back story, followed by funky tunes.

I am currently running I76 NitroRiders (NitroPack in the US) on a 1.4
tbird/256DDR/geforce2 in D3D with no problems.

www.i82.co.uk
has a current pricelist and the sites found for all the interstate games on
the main news page.
www.interstate76.com
The messageboards are full of helpful vigilantes who can tell you which
server you'll need to play online, the original servers having been
switched off.
They also have 632 (six hundred and thirty two) interstate maps (resources,
maps) for multiplayer games for all three games; i76, nitro and i82.
The downloads section holds all the patches etc you need to get i76 running
right.  Nobody's got it working on XP properly though.

Don't ever install the gold upgrade for i76, it renders it incompatible
with standard i76 and nobody uses it.

You need patch 1.081 I think for D3D on original interstate 76.  Nitro
works out of the box with D3D and glide.

cheers
John

Running WIN98SE here. I tried the Int76 with my GF2 card but it didn't
work for me. The textures had all colors except the correct ones,
textures were heavily teared, and everything was flashing like mad.
I messed around with it quite a bit but really couldn't get it working
correctly.

A big shame since I LOVED Interstate.. the music, the atmosphere..
Groovy man :)

PS The people who made Interstate '82 deserve to spend the rest of
their lives in a Turkish prison! What the hell were they thinking!!!

Wow! Thanks a lot for the info! What was that Gold upgrade again.. I
have the standard I76 and that Nitro addon pack, and I remember I did
install the Gold update when I tried it with my GF2..
Anyway, time to dig up those cd's and give it another try!!

I haven't reinstalled it since about two crashes ago... and by then I had only
begun to try it. Maybe it's time to take another look at it...
I have a GF2 too... I'll let you know how it turns out.

Was it *that* bad?

No, it was even worse than that, but I'm a forgiving person, so I
would only give them the life-long Turkish prison sentence.
But they deserve much worse!!

I assume it's the original edition, it came bundled with an old Velocity 128
graphics card and I never really liked it.... the computer I had wasn't very
good at the time, and neither was the graphics card I bought. The game comes
on 2 discs though, so it may have the addons.

Not running XP, I have a copy here I got from work, but I'm very happy with
the stability of W2K at present... Plus I have a Voodoo5, and there are
still issues getting games to run with a V5 and XP... I've talked with
people who have to swap drivers for different games, If I wanted to do that
I'd get a card from nVidia.  :o)

I have a small problem here - I insert the I76 cd, click on install,
and after hitting a couple of 'next' buttons the game should start
installing. But it doesn't I get an '_ins0432 - this program has
performed an illegal operation' error and I drop back to desktop.

I tried 2 different cd-rom drives but on both drives I get the same
error.
Any idea?

Right, I fixed it - copied all the files of the cd to my hd, replaced
the _inst0432 file with a newer version and installed from hd.
Turned out to be a problem with an old version of installshield on the
cd.

Right, installation went ok, I start the game, choose play, choose D3D
mode and click on play.
'This program has performed an illegal operation' and it's back to
desktop.
Same result when I try to run it in software or in window mode.

Any.. idea?

Andre
