Interstate 76 Sound and Joystick Problems

by Donald R. Chapm » Fri, 28 Mar 1997 04:00:00

This is not a whining post just a request for help since I always get
fast results here as opposed to Tech support voice or e-mail.
I have already read thru Interstate 76 Help file and readme.txt and
have found no answer to my problem.

System specs: P166(Intel processor) 32MB RAM, Intergraph Reactor with
latest drivers, Diamond Monster 3D with latest drivers, Sound Blaster
16 w/latest drivers, 6XCD(Creative), and TSW steering controller.
Full install of Interstate 76(110MB) running Full Screen(640x480).
Direct X 3a drivers. I did not let the I76 Install program install
Direct X3 as I already had it installed.

Problem1: Install and Intro runs perfect, no problems at all with
sound, video, etc. When running the game, however, the sound stutters
like crazy and actually seems to repeat itself. The driving/shooting
seems to be working fine if somewhat choppy at current detail
settings. Of course the help file says it is a problem with sound
drivers etc. but I have the most recent Win95 drivers off of
Creative's Web Site for the Sound Blaster 16. In all other Direct X
games I have (Diablo, Hyperblade, MTM) the sound is working fine.

Problem2: I have the TSW as Joystick 1 - 2 axis, 2-button joystick. It
does calibrate correctly and actually is working in the game(tested in
training mode), but it just doesn't seem very responsive in braking
and acceleration. I realize this could just be the game, or limitation
of Win95 joystick setup, but I wanted to see if others are
experiencing this or have any ideas for improving.

Any help would be appreciated as this appears to be a pretty cool
game.
