Interstate 76: Discussion welcome on r.a.s.??????

I've been following the progress of this game for several months now
and it has finally gone gold, we should see it on the shelves very
soon. I have to confess I find the idea of an auto-combat action-sim
very intriguing (ole' Car Wars fanatic.) and the buzz on this game is
quite favorable.

But my question is, will the users of r.a.s. support discussion of
I76?

I've read the FAQ. But  I76 seems to fall into the cracks of "arcadey
and action" and I tend to think the speed monsters that use r.a.s.
will not want to discuss it here. ("Carmageddon" for example would not
be an appropriate title to discuss, but I76 reportedly has car physics
that would seem to qualify it as a sim.)

I'm also a N2/ICR2-aholic, and I would like coverage of I76 *here*
without venturing into the jumbled mess that is c.s.i.p.g.action.

Semi-obvious side note: Realistically, there's no way to stop it.

That being said, I think it's entirely appropriate for discussion of
I76 to occur here. (It might be nice if we could all prefix our
subject lines with the game prefix to facilitate easier
"scoring/killing" of articles that didn't interest some of us.)

I don't care that it's a competitor's product, and that it's probably
not going for the dead-on as accurate as modern machines allow
simulation of car physics, it's still a game that appeals to a lot of
the crowd here, and as a practical matter this is probably the best
group that currently exists for it...

SNIP!

I guess that depends on how good the driving model in it is :-)

Actually IMO I would love to hear about I-76 here on r.a.s.
it would give us a nice break from the usual GP2 vs ICR2 vs Nascar2
flamefests.

I already have a copy of I-76 on reserve for when it comes out, looks like
a fun diversion while we wait for that GP2 patch <sarcasm>

Cheers.

I don't see why I76 can't be discussed in RAS. It sounds like the perfect
game for some of us who need a break from the SIMS! Especially after racing
N2 at Dega for an hour then you Pit and Earnhardt rams the side of your car
while your still IN THE PITS!!!(please fix this someone)

As a beta tester I can testify to the realism of the physics of the cars. I
defy any of you to show me a sim in which it feels more like you are
driving a car and I have played them all. And if you want to remove weapons
and just race, trust me there are no better tracks than those in I76.
Mountains, bridges, towns, etc, etc, etc. are there to race THROUGH not just
to look at from a distance as in GP2, Nascar2, Icr2. As a matter of fact
one of the first single player missions pits you against your friend who
wants to test your driving prowess by racing you through a serpentine dirt
road, full of short cuts, wooden jumps etc, if he beats you you cannot go
any further in the game(i.e. you are not good enough), but if you beat him,
he directs you to follow a road(ex:route 88) for one mile and protect
something(yes, you have to follow your road map). Trust me whether you are
playing single player(in which you feel like your in the middle of a movie)
or you are playing single player, NO GAME that I've played yet(N2, ICR2,
GP2)(Duke3d,Quake) captures the e***ment of racing around in 1968-1976
muscle cars on beautiful, widespread levels(they arent really tracks
because you can go anywhere you want. If you are driving on a one hundred
foot high cliff and want to fly off that cliff to your death (I dont know
why you would want to other than to witness it<it looks greatfrom the
different camera angles>) you can do it. You have no restrictions.
