GPL AI ramming from behind - a help!

by Thorsten Ruete » Sat, 03 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

Some time ago someone posted a thread about being constantly
rammed from behind by the GPL AI drivers.
Excuse me, but I'm too lazy to search for that thread again,
so I post my answer here.
I experienced the same problem, especially at the some specific
places like Monza's Parabolica or Zandy's Tarzan corner.
Well, here's a cure for that:
In the GPL folder there's a file called 'gpl_ai.ini', open it with
a text editor and go to the bottom of the file where the section
*car class parameters* is; there change the
braking_efficiency_coeff from 0.700 to 1.000. This makes
the AI better on the brakes (while avoiding accidents, I think
this has no influence on late braking).
After I changed this value to 1.000 I haven't been rammed again!!
And his is nearly half a year ago.

The other cool thing is that when you go the other way, they don't slow down
and drive through the sand pits at monza at full throttle just like they
were on asphalt.

Go the other way?  Slow down at full throttle?  I wish I knew what you were
trying to say.  Is there a change you are recommending to prevent the GPL AI
from driving off-road as though they are not off-road (which is what they do
now)?

Please help us.

Marc.

I thought that someone was complaining that he was constantly rammed
from behind by the AI. The changes that I described makes an end to this.
They are better on the brakes in a situation, where they have to brake
to avoid hitting you from behind. This change has no impact on otherwise
late breaking (I think).

I understood your post, it was Jesse's I couldn't comprehend.  It sounds
like he has made a change that prevents the AI from driving through sand
pits, etc. as though they are driving on asphalt--which would be a major
improvement.

Marc.

Rammed from behind?
Ha! I was rammed from the side. On purpose, several times, when I
tried to rejoin the track from the Parabolica sand trap.
The AI saw me, turned left, accelerated and rammed into the side of my
car. I had a replay from McLaren, but I lost it. Still got the Bandini
one, which is not as *** as the McLaren one. But still evidence
enough to sentence him for attempted ***.

Yes!  Exactly the same thing happened to me, except that he missed and
went straight off himself!

B*stards!
