GPL on a laptop Pt.2...

by Norsem » Sat, 03 Nov 2001 07:19:55

I just read a post here from a while back regarding laptops and
wondered if anyone here might have some ideas for me to try on my
Toshiba Sattelite 3000-s353 laptop which I can't get GPL to run on.
Even though this system has a nVidia GeForce 2go card, I can only get
it to run in software mode. Anything else (D3d or OpenGL) and the fps
is around 4 believe it or not! This really sucks since GPL was the
main thing I bought this for (when I'm out of town and need my GPL
fix). I've had this system for a couple of months now and still can't
figure out the problam. I've tried a few different drivers, but maybe
there's a specific driver someone can recommend that they use on their
laptop? Or any other ideas?

Thanks!

GPL on a laptop Pt.2...

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro with a completely different (and far
inferior - man I'm jealous) graphics chip, the S3 Savage.  If I run FRAPS in
the background (a little framerate counter program from www.fraps.com) and
D3D, I got excellent framerates.  If I ran GPL without FRAPS, I got about 3
fps.  It's worth a try...

p.s. could you give some feedback on whatever other sims you have tried on
the Toshiba (framerate, resolution).  It's almost time for a new notebook,
and I'm trying to decide between super thin and light, or the newer
Satellites.  If the sims run well, then I'll spring for one.
