My fps counter, after installing the patch, seems to be at either 37.5 or
73 fps...no gradual change throught the 40's, 50's, or 60 fps...just 37 then
73...odd...(at C***te and Bullrun)

You don't happen to have installed the new 28.90 detonators?

The fact that your fps seems 'locked' at 37 & 73 seems to indicate that your
running with V Sync enabled at a refresh rate of 75Hz (which is *re-enabled*
by the new dets regardless of previous settings)

If so check your V Sync settings under Display Properties.

Sounds like a vsync issue.  Is your monitor refresh rate 75Hz?

Perhaps the patch has hard-coded vsync to be on?

Thanks for the clue...I had recently installed the 28.32's and at least
for opengl the vsync was enabled.  I did find one setting that was odd, for
both d3d and open gl there is a box that asks how much system memory to set
aside for textures.  The open gl box default was 31 and the d3d was only 5.
I have a 64 meg GF3 TI200 card, what "should" those settings be?
and where did the vsync box for d3d go?

Speaking of poor sound, is it really worth the frame rate hit to enable all
24? I installed a GeF4 yesterday and have been running with all the sounds,
instead of the 12 previously configured- but  with headphones, not in 3D. I
took a 10fps hit and haven't noticed much improvement in sound quality,
variability or sourcing. Any thoughts?

Personally, I've always set the sound low, even if I could run it high.
Way I look at it, the real boys can't hear 16 cars around them, etc., so
why bother ?

I just run one or so opponent's engine sounds, eight sounds heard, etc.

Shouldn't matter, Dave.  AFAIK that setting only affects PCI
cards.

I have noticed little if any sound improvement...I can still only hear my
spotter through the static about 2/3 of the time...haven't noticed any fps
change (but then again I might not be able to tell the difference..)..if I do I
will be reinstalling to prepatch-don't play online anyway...only reall change
was now I need the CD again............
