What is the best combination card 2-3D to go with GPL or other simulation
racing out there
Would pay up to $300.
I now have
Pentium 200M 64M
Millenium 1
Diamond Voodoo 1
In need of speed
Thanks
Claude

Hey, don't be afraid to ask!
I think most here would agree that it's either a Rendition-based Hercules
Thriller 8MB card or one of the many 3Dfx-based Banshee cards. Beyond that,
the debate rages on. Personally, I think, for your machine, the Thriller
might be the better 2D/3D card solution, especially if your focus is on Papy
sims...but, stick around. I'm sure you'll see some different perspectives!

FYI it's BellSouth.net.
Between you and me, I now understand why RAS had nearly 100 new posts when I
checked in this morning.
Attention, everyone:
Phil and I apologize.

GPL runs well on my P200/Voodoo1, but only if I keep the AI down to 5 drivers or so and
the detail low (slider to left, mirrors set to cars only). Mind you, I use the same detail
settings on the 450a to keep the frame rate up to 36 most of the time with 19 AI.
Anyway, I'd suggest a Voodoo2 for Claude. The P200 won't push it too hard, but it'll be
useful if/when he upgrades the PC and the V2's still a good D3D card unless you need
the really high resolutions.

PS 5 AI may not be most people's idea of a good race, but IMO GPL's better with no AI
at all than most sims are with a full field ;-)
