F1GP, unbeatable time on Imola?

by Stude » Wed, 11 Jan 1995 22:47:17

I love F1GP from Microprose, and because I've done it so often now,
I wondered how good I am. On Imola I'm able to put a time below
1:20:00 (1:19:874 to be exact) in the standard setup (you know,
front and back wing 40). I only got two time below 1:20, so I
wondered, is there somebody who can beat me on this one. I'd love
to race against him/her.

Wow, how does that work! Are the times you listed above times that were
driven withou cheating? I drove below 1:20 and with the standard setup
(normal wing, C-compound tires) I can hardly imagine that someone can
drive below 1:16. How do they get to those times?
Please tell me something more about this competition and these astronomical
times.

F1GP, unbeatable time on Imola?

by David Paul Gym » Sat, 14 Jan 1995 19:39:23

[Just want to point out that there isn't an entry form any more.]

After I discovered this newsgroup, I though I was pretty hot stuff at
F1GP; I'd repeatedly slashed the records and won the championship at
ace level with ease.  Then I discovered Hilden Sami's posted times and
setups - wow, was I slow or what?!  So I embarked on a quest for the
fastest times and the best setups in the world - and so the HOF was
born (don't work, this isn't going to turn into an epic tale!).  And
verily, the HOF grew and it's members multiplied, and the records tumbled
as DUG and IV and RS1 battled for position and I felt slower and slower...

Today's story teaches us that (a) there's always someone quicker, (b)
the default setups are crap, (c) always drive on Q tyres, and (d) when
F1GPv2 comes out all this will be forgotten as the battles begin
again...  :-)

There endeth the lesson for today.

The way a got my most astronomical times was by jumping my frame rate up.
My 486 25sx can process about 13-15 frames a sec.  If I set the rate to 25
it was like driving in Sloooowwww motion.  I did this for a year before
realizing  that at more reasonable frame rate I wasn't such a stud.

Do I detect a hint of jealousy?  If you're allowed to jump chicanes,
a time of 1:13.869 (at least) is possible, averaging 152.6mph and
some serious suspension damage.  :-)

At first, I didn't believe these times either...

These guys were talking about STANDARD setup, you can't do 1:13 with
a standard car. Wings 40/40, brake bias in middle etc.

F1GP, unbeatable time on Imola?

I use the default setup in my simulation of 1992 Ligier. Perhaps
this is not in my right mind.

The problem I have, in trying to simulate poor performance, is that
the game does not allow selected drivers to fail to qualify. In order
to fail to qualify my Ligier, I have to drive an Arrows zB, and
hope the Ligier driver fails.

My time, by the way, at Imola, in a simulated 1992 Ligier, is 1:32.
This seems to provide the right mix of 24th, 25th, and 26th place finishes.

Can someone tell me T. Boutson's result at Imola 1992?

Okay. I apologise. i fiddled with my setup a lot and have gone a lot faster.
I will try some more and post s time to make you jealous.
Of course no one who posts times uses cheat programs like Qtyres etc....
I never cheat but I am also not inventive enough with my setups.
Tomorrow the world will be impressed (I hope) with my stunning Imola times.
Later.....
