Yep they added a few chicanes to slow the cars down after the Senna
tragedy.

To be specific, they took the long left hander Tamburello (sp?) and
added two fairly fast chicanes, but still nothing like the flat out
long curve left it used to be.  They also changed aqua minerale, which
used to be downhill with a right left right right and now its just a
sort of squared right, right, though its still downhill, turn, turn
again uphill.  Also, there used to be an extra right/left sequence
before you got to the pits, and that's gone.

Hi All,
Is it just me or is the real track at Imola sligtly different from the
GP2 track ? Might it be they changed things because of the Senna
accident ? Is this already very old news to you, sorry then.

Yep, Tamburello which was a flat out 180mph corner in top has now been changed to a chicane. The right hander after that - villeneuve has also been tightened.

Aqua Minerale has also been altered significantly from the corner you see in the game.

Its only old news to those who have heard it.

Yes Gabrie, Imola in the GP2 sim has several different things
different then its "realworld" counterpart. Mostly the elevation
and one of the chicanes that I personally noticed.

Gp2 imola differs from real imola ???

The changes are as follows, which were made post Senna/Ratzenberger and
were implemented jointly on reccomendations from the FIA, the Italian
Motorsport Federation and the GPDA.

There is now a 2nd gear chicane inserted at Tamburello where Senna went
off.  This is due to the fact that the corner was a flat in 6th 190mph
corner with little runoff and a concrete wall on the outside.  There is
also a 2nd gear chicane at Villeneuve where Ratzenberger went off.

From here the circuit is unchanged until you get to the old chicane half
way round the lap in the GP2 game.  This has now been removed and replaced
with a flat in 4th right hand bend immediately followed by a 2nd gear sharp
right hand bend.  This is the combination of corners where Berger went off
in the race, due to a bump on the entrance to the flat in 4th corner.
These corners are an excellent place to see the brake discs glowing.

The circuit is then unchanged until the final series of bends before the
start finish.  The right hand bend where Barrichello went off in '94
practice is removed and there is now a straight line which goes towards the
pit entrance and then then the final left right bend goes into the pit
straight as before.

This makes the whole circuit slower than previously.... which means a
medium downforce set-up instead of the setup us simmers need in GP2 to get
our high speeds through Tamburello and Villeneuve.

We'll have to wait for F1 to come out to try it out.  Can't wait...

But look for GrandPrix Legens from Papyrus, it will have the old Imola
track wich was faster and more breath-taking.  This will also be a
challenge track.

Good race at the Brickyard,
