SCGT patch: lost my split-axis!

by Galley_SimRace » Sat, 29 May 1999 04:00:00

I unzipped the ISI patch for SCGT into the main folder, and it installed
with no problems.  So I started the game, and lo and behold, the
options/career submenu now stays on the screen!
There wasn't a selection for choosing the dash view as the default, though,
as was stated in the read me.
Worst of all, I can't use split-axis any longer with my LWFF.
Is there a single file I can replace without having to re-install the whole
shebang?
And what's the deal with being able to assign up to 16 buttons to a
joystick/wheel?

I have that option available on my screen...don't know why it'd be
missing on yours.

Interestingly, I could not get the dual axis on my TSW to be
recognized in either the demo with the dual axis patch, or in the
retail prior to installing the 1.551 patch.  Then, after installing
the patch, the dual axis worked.  Then, after running a quick race,
exiting the sim to use the Adv. Opts. utility to change to "Full Sim"
mode, then going back into a quick race, I noticed that I had no
brakes.  Went back to the Options menu, and my dual axis would no
longer work there.  Had to switch the TSW back to single axis, and
that works ok with the 1.551 patch.

Don't know, sorry.

Wondered about that myself.  Haven't seen any changes to any menus
that cover this, or anything in the patch readme that says how to map
keys or commands to additional wheel buttons via any sort of config
file.

root directory instead of the MAS

Problem solved!  Thanks to Tim's reply, I found the  .mas files that were
still in the main folder, and not the MAS folder, so I dragged them into it,
along with a scene.xxx file into the DAT folder.
Eureka!
Also, it's nice to see that ISI heard our pleas and allowed the dash to be a
default view, along with making the options bar non-disappearing.

I am d/l the patch as we speak, so I can;t say anything for sure, but I am
guessing it will allow (for instance) the shift paddles on a MSFF wheel to be
natively supported rather than having to be mapped to keyboard keys.

On a MSFF wheel, the shift paddles are 'buttons 7 & 8'.  SCGT only recognizes up
to 4 joystick buttons, so the shift paddles could not be used without creating a
custom profile  assigning them to something else that was recognized.

I bet the new MAS files are in your root directory instead of the MAS
directory. I think there are 4 new ones with the patch. Just move them
over manually.

I'm not sure about this. I installed the patch, moved the MAS files
over manually (which made the dash option available), and the split
axis on my Formula Force is fine.

Well I installed the files in the directories that they should be
in and all seems ok here!! As the other post stated; All files
must go into the correct directories.. Good luck Thom_j.

[snip]

Must admit, I'm an SCGT newbie, so I'm unfamiliar with what a custom
profile would be.  Is this the .plr file in the sub-directory under
the "Saved" directory?  Did you have such a custom profile already set
up prior to the patch?

So far on my TSW I have the paddle shifters mapped to shift up & down
(surprise) and one of the remaining two buttons on the wheel mapped to
"look backward" (keyboard default is BACKSPACE), so I have one
remaining button on the wheel that could potentially be used for
something.

Any hints about how to take advantage of this, or what might be a good
function (if this can be done) to map (e.g., "display tire tread
percentage remaining" or something like that)?

TIA

I meant a profile for my MSFF wheel, set up using the wheel's software.
