There is a new vibrating force feedback seat pad on the market (soon to
be released) that simulates the different physical forces applied to a
pilot, wich is available for the flying/racing simulators. The
pre-released review of the product is fantastic (flightsim.com).

Are these intelliVIBE modules part of the Direct X software? Does
anyone know if, by any miracle, GPL supports the intelliVIBE modules...

Oooh...,it says "N3/Nascar Legends" among compatible games.........
I haven't read the reviews yet,BUT from what I could gather
at their site the FF seems to be based on the units
repsonse to various in-game sounds, rather than any API.
Still wonderful it it works,though....

THIS will be amazing.  All they need now is something to whack you
when you crash.:-)

This is taken from the Readme to Nascar3. Looks like it is something more
than just a tactile sytem working with sounds, since it use the parallel
port:

"NASCAR? Racing 3 offers special support for VRF's tactile feedback seat in
its intelliVIBE mode.  The following parameters affect the settings and
performance of the device.

The following line must be included in the N3.INI file to activate the
intelliVIBE support:

VIBE_ON

This next parameter is optional and can be used to scale the amount of
vibration generated by the speed of the car.  The number can be set to
anything between 0 and 200, with 100 being the default setting.

VIBE_MPH_SCALE n

This next parameter again is optional and can be used to scale the amount of
vibration generated by the engine rpm of the car.  The number can be set to
anything between 0 and 200, with 100 being the default setting.

VIBE_RPM_SCALE n

By default a parallel port address of 378 will be used.  That is the address
which almost all parallel ports use.  To check your parallel port address,
look at the Properties of your LPT1 port in the Device Manager tab of the
System control panel.  The parallel port base address is the left number of
the Setting column of the Resource table for Input/Output Address.  Consult
the following chart to determine which number to use for your parallel port
configuration if it differs from the default:

Port Address:       Use this number for 'n':
       278                             1
       2bc                             2
       378                             3
       3bc                             4

VIBE_PORT_ADDRESS_NUM n"

I like this line from their website:

"Generate tactile feedback electromechanically, not by broadcasting loud
sound at your body "

Am I missing something here?  Isn't a loudspeaker and electromechanical
device?

Oh well.  Sounds pretty neat anyways.

oops,I was wrong.
They seem to have two alternatiwe methods,IntelliVibe and AudioSense.
Intelli vibe is some kind of FF API that needs built-in support, while
AudioSense
infers things from the game sounds and don't need support from the
developers.
The good good news is that N3  and Nascar Legends are among those
that have support for the IntelliVibe. The bad news is that those games,
AFAIK,were developed AFTER GPL.,so it is no guarantee for GPL
having full support.Don't you think that Papyrus would need a little
hint about this,in case GPL lacks it.......? :-)

Yes, you missed something.  They don't use a large speaker like their
competitors.  They use powerful electromagnetic actuators.  Go here for
detailed differences.

Thanks, but I already read the whole thing.  All I was disputing was their
conjecture that loudspeakers are not electromechanical devices.  The signal
from an amplifier is an electrical current.  It travels down the speaker
wire to the speaker which converts it into mechanical motion, moving the air
in waves we perceive as sound.  As far as I can tell, that's
electro-mechanical.

This is what I quoted:

"Generate tactile feedback electromechanically, not by broadcasting loud
 sound at your body "

Broadcasting loud sounds is creating tactile feedback electromechanically
just as is their method.   If the statement said "Tactile feedback is
generated with powerful electro-mechanical actuators rather than by
broadcasting loud sounds at your body" I wouldn't have a problem with it.
As it stands, it essentially says "Generate tactile feedback
electromechanically, not electromechanically", and that is nonsensical.

I'm just nitpicking.  The device is very intriguing and I may have to get
one to see how well it works.
