Either that or you will start using SPF instead...:-), seriously though,
I don't think you can expect too much from most of the "mobility"
chipsets, however, Toshiba has a model with the GeForce2GO (or
something) chipset, which is basically a 16 MB Geforce2 MX I believe,
I'm sure other brands have a model or two with this chip as well
Over here it's known as "Toshiba Satellite 3000-400", P3-900 with 128 MB
RAM, 14" TFT screen and an onboard CD-RW/DVD drive, nice toy if you have
the money for it, or have someone else foot the bill of course :-)

I got good performance in Half-Life (3D FPS game, pretty graphically
demanding) on a ThinkPad with Celeron 433 and ATi Rage Pro video. That ATi
Rage was old tech even at that time. A modern chipset will do *much*
better.
You shouldn't have trouble running GPL on a modern laptop with ATi Radeon
(can't remember the name for mobile Radeon) and the D3D patch.
You will notice that the relatively low redraw (not refresh) rate of a TFT
panel may smear some graphics. TFT isn't great for fast movement and don't
even consider DSTN screens.
Dale.
Art, Noone to my knowledge has ever put 3dfx based chipsets on notebooks,
and if they did, it certainly isn't happening anymore since the demise of
3dfx. There is really no such thing as a D3D based card, thats software
based, meaning any decent video card with good driver support will support
D3D. The faster the card is and the more memory it has will help determine
how good an fps u can get, and notebooks are not known for good *** fps
due to lack of vid memory and slower power-saving chipset versions. How the
heck r you going to cart around your wheel/pedal combo?

The Dell Inspiron 8100 looks particularly good for this. P3-M
866MHz to 1.2GHz (w/133MHz bus), GeGorce 2Go 16 or 32meg, 256meg RAM,
1400x1050 or 1600x1200 res 14" or 15" screens, combo DVD/CD-RW, etc.
For around $2000 with a 1GHz and the lower res screen. Check the
review at (and note the 95 FPS achieved in Quake III Arena):

36 fps full detail 16 bit tracks and cars (where available) at 1024x768 . At
the back of the grid at Monaco it starts at 24 fps builds up to 36 quickly.
Very playable
As is GP3 and CMR2

A friend of mine in Canada just picked up a close-out Satellite, PIII-800 or
so, GeForce2Go, for $2400.
