The following has worked for me on the ICR2 Rendition version.
>1. Copy the patch files into ICR2 root dir.
>2. Edit the indysafe.bat file as follows.
>rem INDYSAFE.BAT - Runs IndyCar II Rendition in FIFO mode
>rem FIFO mode is slower than DMA mode, but works on almost all machines
>rem * Expects game executable INDYCAR.EXE in game directory
>rem * Currently expects 9/10/96 version of SPD3D.UC
>rem * ICR2's DOS4GW will not work if Quake's QDPMI is installed
>C:
>cd C:\ICR2
>rem set SPEEDY3D=C:\ICR2
>rem set SPEEDY3D_DMA=
>rem Only use this if your machine fails to recognize the correct amount of
>rem memory installed on your board. Set it to the number of megabytes.
>rem set SPEEDY3D_MEMSIZE=4
>if exist INDYCAR2.DMP del INDYCAR2.DMP
>echo.
>echo INDYSAFE.BAT: Redirecting output to file 'INDYCAR2.DMP'
>echo.
>INDYCAR2 -gRN1f > INDYCAR2.DMP
>mode co80
>echo.
>echo INDYSAFE.BAT: Displaying file 'INDYCAR2.DMP':
>echo.
>type INDYCAR2.DMP
>echo.

I have read here that some have been able to get ICR2 to run in DMA mode. I
haven't; but, N2 runs fine on my machine in DMA mode. Thanks to the kind
soul that provided V2dosfix.exe, I can now run in plain DOS. It seems odd
that someone besides Renditon or Diamond is coming up with the fixes now. N2
and ICR2 are still the best simulations around and are a great way to
showcase their product. The patch for ICR2 is a beta and is almost 2 months
old now! ( I guess their all working on Quake.)
The Stealth2 is a decent card; but frankly, the only reason I have one is
for ICR2 and N2.
Thanks to all the people that work on the add-ons for N2 and ICR2 and the
folks that help us with these damn video cards.
