New Diamond Stealth II Rendition Card!?!

by Nomo Respe » Sat, 27 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Anyone heard good or bad about this graphics card that is currently
being shipped to stores now?  It's based on the 2100 chip set instead
of the 2200.  Not all that sure what the differences are, or exactly
what improvements there is between the old 1000 chip set vs the 2100.
Any information on this would greatly be appreiated.  I'm tried of the
bad frame rates in NASCAR2, even with a P166... this built in graphics
chip on the motherboard will be deactivated once I decide which
graphics card to go with.

Thanks

I saw a write up at one of the game sites. $119 direct from Diamond.
They have more info at their website.

That's where I originally saw information about the Stealth II
graphics card.  I have not seen any benchmark tests, good or bad
opinions etc.
I normally make my buying decision based on reviews and from the end
user voiced opinions, and not what a company advertises their product
will do... as you know, they tend to blow things up out of portion.

Where did you hear that the Stealth II is being shipped now?  I can't
wait to try one out with Nascar 2 and SODA.  Anyway, to answer your
questions, the V2100 is about 15% slower than the V2200 in 3D.
Diamond is claiming a 3D Winbench score of 187 for the Stealth II on a
P2/266, which places it in the same class as the Voodoo.  The V2100
also lacks some of the bells and whistles of the V2200, e.g.,
DVD/MPEG-2 acceleration; TV/Video in/out;  8mb capability; and a
slower RAMDAC -- 170mhz vs. 203/230 for the V2200.  It appears to be
about twice as fast as the V1000 in 3D.  2D performance is reputed to
be vastly improved as well.

Thanks for the info.  Diamond is claiming that the Stealth II should
be available in stores now FYI.  I may have to purchase one if there
isn't a slow down in the 2d performance.
