Just to let everyone know, a very reliable little bird told me that
Papyrus is working on a force feedback patch for GPL...

For those of you who didn't know, there will be a revision of my initial
GPL review posted soon. Having the Four Wheel Drift book helped out a
lot. And FYI, I DON'T hate the game... I have actually been playing it
quite a lot lately with my new found knowledge and it's very ***ive.
The multiplayer support is superb, now that I found people to race
against.

Thanks goes out to those few who gave constructive criticism and hints.

HA. They broke under pressure. Lets see how good they can make it.

I knew this was gonna happen! I only hope they will give us some sort of
"sliders" to adjust the amount of feedback for various effects. This would
be real' cool.

Wow! Is this patch really going to happen? If only now they would put in a
save race option then GPL would be pretty perfect!

I believe it, when I see it! That way I can't be disappointed... ;^)

But it would be really cool. Right now I'm more often driving MGPR
than GPL just to experience the quite impressive FF effects it has.

Unfortunately, they can only make it as good as the FF hardware that
consumers are willing to buy...

Hey Jim,

After using one of the ACT Labs Force RS wheels for about
a week, I have to say that the hardware is pretty good.  As
far as force generated by the wheel, I've measured it at
about 2.5 pounds to maintain it's position.  It takes more
than 3 pounds to move the wheel against the maximum
tension.  Those measurements were taken on the outside
diameter of the wheel.

A heavy hitter in the FF world once told me that he
thought a consumer-grade FF wheel would need to generate
at least 2 lbs of force at the outside of the wheel to
be effective, so that part is already being met.  The
ACT Labs wheel currently operates through a serial port,
so bandwidth should not be a problem.  The first USB
cartridges should be available in about a month, and
then bandwidth is a non-issue.

I am not arguing that FF hardware can't improve
drastically - it can and will.  But there is no
longer any valid argument for a serious simulation
maker to avoid FF support!

BTW, have you tried Viper with any of the currently
available FF wheels?

Have you tried the wheel with any DOS titles?

Hi !

Yesterday, I 've bought the Microsoft FF Wheel ( Act labs is not sold in
France :o( ).

i've tried it on several games : NFS3, MTM2, Ultimate Race Pro , Viper
Racing Demo .
what i can say is that we can have great effects ( NFS3, MTM2 ) and
realistic feelings ( Ultimate Race Pro, Viper ).
Effects : gravle , grass, walls etc...
realistic feelings : loosing grip, getting grip, skids. Steering much hard
with speed and handling. ( sorry for my bad english )

If  FF GPL patch is good as Viper Racing , it will be great !

For what it's worth, I understand that Thrustmaster is working with
Papyrus in their efforts to add FF support.  TM's FF wheels should be
out around Thanksgiving (Best Buy and CompUSA).
