They don't -yet-
You have to understand that this track-editing has started from ZERO. There is
no support from Microprose, Crammond or anyone else. The author of the
track-editor (Paul Hoad) has been bussy uncovering the fileformat of F1GP tracks
for a very long time, went over to GP2 and has been assisted by a number of
enthusiasts for the past few months. Keeping this in mind, the results are
absolutely incredible!
Real-life scenery is a problem because it is necessary to know the format of
objects. This is being worked on, but it is reported to be rather... difficult
:-)
Nevertheless I have seen quite a few tracks that made good use of existing
objects to create a believable environment. Not 100% authentic, but atmospheric
enough.
Anyway: the editor is still in alfa-stage. Things can only get better in the
future. And with a bit of luck, GP3 track format will be similar so we can
continue to use the editor for it!!!

Great work, keep it up, people!
BTW, does the track editor run under WINE emulation within Linux?
I'd be interesting in helping along if this is the case.

All help is welcomed. Center of activity is the track editing forum at:

The track editor homepage is somewhere at:

Yes they do! Have a look at the new "tunnels-track"! That has some real-life
scenery!
Find it at
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/7479/trackfrm.htm
It's great!!, tunnels, cliffs, forest and lots of rocks!
Martijn Keizer
Of course, Martijn :-)
But my answer dates from a few weeks ago and for TYPICAL tracks. Don't think
your "tunnels" track is an example of a "typical" track at the moment!! Great
job. It is SO frustrating that people with normal computers have to sacrifice
all the textures to keep it playable at acceptable framerate, though...
Sidenote: when I drive it, I have this feeling that I'm driving in slowmo, even
when the PO only reads 70-80, and even though you didn't seem to experiment with
factors that influence grip and such. Any idea why I have this impression? For
some reason, I think the trees all around the track have an influence.
Keep those genius tracks coming!!!!
