GP2: Track specifics/names

by JEB » Tue, 30 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Can someone recommend a good reference, online or off,
that discusses the names of the curves and other major
aspects of the tracks.
I see a lot of posts referring to some of the curves by
a name, and places on the track by name.
I'm not familiar with these names and would like to learn
more about it.

Thanks

Thanks, I am still using the pre-release version and only have
a xerox copy of the first half of the manual. I'll go get it
this week so I can stop asking STUPID questions. Obviously I was
not aware that this info was in the manual. I just thought that
all of these guys were really sharp F1 fans, now I know that they
read it outta the manual...hehehe, somehow I feel better now...(G).

Thanks for your reply. Sorry again about the dumb question.
It is available in my area now.

At least in the U.S. version manual, there are track guides for each track
and they list the names of the turns and chicanes for the given track,
they also list he suggested gear for these corners and some setup hints.

Check the manual, unless you're still using your pre-release version, in
which case you should be able to get the full version Nationwide by now.

The manual is worth having although I hear the Europeans got full color
pics in theirs compared to the B/W picts in the U.S. Manual.

Cheers.

Try doing an altavista search on "F1" "track" "circuit" etc. There is an
excellent site on Southampton University here in the UK which has all of
the official FIA circuit guides, which have all the names. The GP2
manual is okay, but misses such names as "Jim Clark chicane" and "Senna
Chicane" at Hockenheim, which it calls "Chicane 1" and "Chicane 2"
respectively.

Cheers!
John

PS - I'd give you the URL but I can't remember it!

Hi!

Try GrandPrix 2 Technical Supplement that came with your GP2-package.
There you can learn at least the names.

The official GP2 manual tells you a bit more about the tracks (it also
came with the game). It starts from page 52.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be smug, sorry if it came across that way,

I knew you had the pre-release version and actually I was very glad for
all the info you were posting on it before it was available here. Actually
I had a bit of a prerelease version myself, my neighbor got it through the
warez system the day it came out in europe and I played it over at his
house, while waiting for it to release here in the states, I was really
getting ticked off at Microprose for making us Yanks wait. I got the real
thing this friday, and it does have a pretty decent manual, but I do wish
they had left the pictures in color as is in the European version.

Us poor yanks, we have to get up at 4:00am Sundays to watch the F1 races,
have to wait an extra week for the game, and to top it all off no color
pics ;)

Oh well still a great game.

Have fun driving, I'm still trying to get my Monza times down, my best is
a 1:24:200 with a T2 and no driving aids except the dotted racing line.

Drop a note if you manage to beat that, I need all the help I can get, did
you see the nice prize on Microprose's homepage for the best Monza time?

Cheers.
