Indycar II - Rendition Question

by John Vozna » Sun, 17 May 1998 04:00:00

I have the old Indycar II and may get the Diamond Viper V330 which I
believe has a Rendition chipset.  Will the Indycar II Rendition version
work with this card?  Also, will the Indycar II Rendition version work
in Windows 95 or only in a DOS window?

Thanks.

Oops, I was wrong, the Viper V330 has a Riva chipset.  So I guess my whole
question goes out the window...

Hi,

the Diamond Viper V330 is not Rendition Ready! The Viper Chipset come from
nVidia, Riva128.
Rendition Ready Cards are Jazz Outlaw, Hercules Thriller 3D and Diamond
Stealth II. With this Cards you have the full graphics in IndyCar Racing II
and Nascar Racing II. The GPL Demo looks great with Rendition Too, but with
the Viper Card, no chnace...

Regards, Stefan
BTW, sorry for my terrible english :)

I'm not speaking from personal experience here (I have a Rendition
V1000), but there have been a lot of problems with getting ICR2 to
work with a Rendition V2x00 card (the ones listed above).  See
http://www.bjorn3d.com/3dtips.html#Games for some workarounds.  Just
to warn you.  If ICR2 is your #1 game, you might want to look for a
used V1000 (Sierra Screamin' 3D, Creative 3D Blaster, Canopus Total 3D
(not the Total 3D 128V; it's a Riva)).  ICR2 works flawlessly with any
of them, and any of them will give you 30 fps with all or nearly all
detail turned on.  Beyond 30 fps, the physics model speeds up, too, so
you lose realism.

Yes you do have to jump through a few hoops to get the v2x00 chips
running icr2 but it does work and works very well.  Once you get comfortable
with the process it is very simple.
and the Bjorn website is a VERY good source for any info concerning
Rendition issues.
