GPL-Overclocking Voodoo 3 2000

Anybody who has got a V3 2000 AGP should check the excellent site at
www.sharkeyextreme.com/hardware/3dfx_V3_oc/
for details of overclocking the 2000 card. I was amazed how easy it was
using the Windows 'regedit.exe' application. I firstly took the card from
the 143mhz default, to 166mhz. This was rock solid. At 175mhz I got freezing
frames.
My system is a PII 450 and 128 Mb ram.
In terms of GPL, at the default of 143mhz I got 23fps at the start at Monaco
with everything turned  on at 1024x768 and 19 cars. Overclocked to 166mhz I
get a very, very steady 27 fps even at the start at Monaco. Crashes can
cause this to come down, to say 20 fps, but recovery is swift, quicker than
you can hit Shift R!  At those frame rates 800x600 isn't needed. The 'detail
bias' slider was turned down two thirds from '+', as at 1024x768 I found it
makes no difference above this setting, and indeed can reduce frame for no
gain. At all other times, and other races, the GPL 36fps max was very nearly
always there, with only a flicker down. We are talking full detail!!!

Stephen...

Thanks! Good info. Think the link is
http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/3dfx_v3_oc/ though.
