Could anyone share their experiences with overclocking V3 2000 and 3000
cards with me please?

I'd love to know what:

overclocking util you use and recommend

how high you can overclock safely to in your experience (with/without extra
cooling)

how you have set up extra cooling for your card

any other related experiences!

thanks in advance

Marc

Look at www.sharkyextreme.com for a V3 overclocking guide.
I have a V3 2000 working at 166 Mhz (V3 3000 frecuency) with no problem,
I added a 486 fan, but I think without extra cooling work well too.

Marc it depends how much you overclock it! For example
A V3 2000 can be clocked to 183 but in my case wouldn't work more than 30
min! While at 153 it works fine no problems at all. In my friends "similar"
rig the same card can be 'clocked to 163 no problems at all. It depends also
on your MB frequency and AGP...
Now with the V3 3000 I have little experience but it's the same thing bus
speed and agp...

I'm running my V3 2000 at 160 with no problems.
I started at 155 and gradually went to 166, but after an hour or so at 166
it would get rather warm, so I backed it off. Open case no extra fans.
mileage may vary

The box said "Windows 95 or better", so I installed LINUX!

I'm currently running my V3 2000 at 173 with no cooling. I keep my case wide
open and since the weather's cooler now and I don't have central heat it stays
cool enough.

Hi Marc

I use Gary Peterson's V3OC util from www.voodoo3.net/utilities.htm which
works really well. They also have FastCard, last time I looked you also had
to download VB runtime files etc etc

Voodoo3 2000 with 486 fan screwed on to heatsink - 180MHz
Voodoo3 3000 with no fans - 183MHz, still bedding in, may go higher.

Hope that helps

Voodoo 3 3000 183 MHz with special cooler. There were some rainbow
noises and since then I lost RAMDAC sharpness a bit. though, that
clock saved fps in clouded situation.

Now running with 181 MHz. Where is Napaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalm? =)

I came across something interesting.  This phenomenon applies to my system.
It might not apply to yours.  But my specs are:

Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
System board  V70MA
Processor/Speed  AMD-K6(R) 2 350MHz PROCESSOR WITH 3DNOW!
System board chipset  ALi M1542/M1543
System board form factor  Micro-ATX
Front-side bus speed  100MHz

Using Gary Peterson's Overclocker version 3.0 at :
http://www.voodoo3.net/utlities.htm , I went from the default 143 to 153
with no problem.  It increased my fpm's about 25%.  I was pleased at the
results.  So I went on to 163, and my fpm's actually slowed down to the
default 143.  So I backed the OC back down to 153, and the fpm's picked back
up.

So it appears that, with my particular system at least, that something is
interfering with me making the jump from 153 to 163.  No doubt something is
getting bottled up on the system board.

But the increase from 143 to 153 is just fine with me.  I'll take the 25%
jump and be happy with it.  Smoothed everything down for me.

Great job on the program, Gary.

I've got the 2000 AGP... though I wish I'd bought the PCI now and it could
go in my old PC when the V4 comes out.

1) Tied on a 486 fan
2) DLed the 1st utility I spotted on voodooextreme
3) Tried a few speeds... 180 gave visible "sparklies" onscreen, 175 solid
for 6 months now.
