GPL - Multiple Monitors?

by wtonsm.. » Sun, 09 Apr 2000 04:00:00

GPL is awesome, but I often wish for a little more peripheral vision. I
do use the peek left and right occasionally (mapped to buttons on my
wheel) but when racing it is dangerous to do so.

I understand that Win98 and Win2K do support multiple video/cards and
monitors. It would be very cool to add one on each side, say at 10 and
2 o'clock.

I suppose it's all for naught unless the program supports it, ie GPL
would have to release a patch?

On a related point, I understand that with EAX support in NASCAR 3, you
get positional audio, so you can hear a particular engine from behind
for example, as opposed to the side or front. Another thing GPL can't
do without a patch, I guess.

Does anyone have any bright ideas here?

Cheers, wtonsmann

You can do something like that, but you'll need 3 (!) PC's capable of
running GPL, modified camera files and run in Multiplayer mode. It pretty
awesome :-)

You can download instructions about multimonitor and GPL here (67k):

Real 3D positioning audio for GPL won't happen unless Papyrus decides to
program it, witch is most unlikely. But it is possible to record for example
an engine sound in Dolby Surround format and let it sound from the rear
speakers. I have experimented with it a little but the big problem is that
all
engine sounds comes from the rear speakers, even competitors engine sounds
in front
of you.

GPL - Multiple Monitors?

So somebody has figured this out already...and it seems to have been known
for quite some time according to the other posting in this thread

GOOD !!!!

I had planned to send a post about this trick too,but wanted to try it
out on a setup myself first ,because I wasn't sure it would work.

Anyway , It will be an EXTREMELY instructive example,
not to the GPL "purists"(to whose ranks I count myself),
but to the GPL "Dogmatics" ,who shun away from
suggestion of ANY KIND of modification of GPL....
they have  been dropping comments of the character
that you should not  ask for modifications (small patches)
of GPL in order to improve your spatial awareness and your immersion,
but you should content yourself with the "clues"
provided to you on a small  measly screen 17' screen, occupying
about 25 degrees of your field of view,as guidance for driving your
car............................
and why ? simply because it was not provided in the original
edition of GPL.......
the same people has also tried to convey the idea that pit stops
really aren't that necessary in races, because they weren't part of
the  original GPL features, and so you should not debate their usefulness in
GPL....
I hope now that after they have had the opportunity of trying this
setup for themselves it will result in a little more sensible debate,
and also in an immensely improved racing experience
for as many people as possible.

They were only trying to cover their shame after O. Stone nailed 'em for the
Kenneday assassination . . .
