GPL multiple monitors (again)

by captripp » Tue, 01 May 2001 03:06:00

I have seen discussions from time to time about using 3 monitors (and/or
3computers) in GPL using front and peripheral views.  Several have talked
about it being possible, etc.....Just wondering....has anyone actually
successfully done this yet.  If you have, how about
describing exactly how you did it and maybe posting a photo of your setup?

seems like you would have to add some code.

GPL multiple monitors (again)

Hi

Been there, done that about a year ago at a LAN party. Just connected 3
PC's over the LAN, set two of 'em to be left and right view and the one
with the wheel and pedals was the front. We also used some modified
cameras files to give better left and right views. The result was really
amazing, and worked flawlessly. Sorry but i have no photos and i don't
know what happened to the camera files, maybe someone else can point you
in the right direction.

GLP is just soooo amazing, it's just the ONLY true racing sim out there,
nothing else comes even remotely close...N4's pretty good though :).

Gerry

PS DGF's a ***er!

You need multiple PCs, not just multiple monitors!!

I haven't done it, but I think this is how it goes-

You get three networked PCs, place the monitors side by side.  You then run
a LAN race on the middle PC.  You then join that race on the other two PCs.
On the side PCs you select the car from the middle PC for viewing and go
full-screen from the in-car view.  Now you should have the same thing on all
three monitors.  So the PCs on either side are just viewing the in-car view
from the middle PCs car.

Now you need to find a way to hold down 'look-left' on the left PC and
'look-right' on the right PC, and you'll get a nice pararamic view with
three monitors.  I guess you'd put 'look-left' and 'look-right' on the
spacebar and put a wieght on it to hold it down, or something like that.

Like I said, haven't tried it, but I'm sure it'll work.

Mauritz Lindqvist created some camera files for the left and right views.
The zip file can be found on the Todays Legends website
http://home.eunet.no/~stefan/racing/popup/3monitors.htm
You can find pictures of my setup here
http://www.legendscentral.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/001123.html

Snipped from the Readme File for 3mongpl.zip by Mauritz Lindqvist.
<snip>With these files is it possible to use three monitors (positioned as a
big V) in GPL on three
computers over a network. On the master computer do you use the default
driving view, and on the two client computers do you use the custom-made
camera views.
Step by step guide:

1) Start GPL on all three computers.

2) Host a multiplayer game on the master computer.

3) Join the race with the other two client computers.

4) Begin the practice session on the master computer by clicking the green
button.

5) On the client computers, click the replay window control button to
enlarge the view to full screen.

6) Use "V" or "shift+V" to change driver on both client computers to the one
you are driving on the master computer.

7) Use "C" or "shift+C" to change to the appropriate left/right camera side
views on both client computers.

8) Race!

9) When the practice session ends, leave the client computers alone because
they will follow you into the race automatically. You don't even need to
change the camera views again. Seems like Papyrus has put some code in there
to make the life easier for us.<snip>

Awesome setup :)

(If you had enough PCs and monitors, could you build a complete sphere of
monitors with you on the inside?)
