GPL Multiplayer with multiple network adapters

by Brad Morga » Thu, 29 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I have two computers connected together with a local ethernet.  Each
computer
also has a modem.

I've configured TCP/IP to run on both the ethernet adapter and the
dialup connection because I want to use TCP/IP between the machines for
some remote
control software (Virtual Network Computing or pcAnywhere for instance).

On one machine I will fire up as a GPL Multiplayer host on the local
TCP/IP
address.  When I go to the second machine and try to join, the machine
hangs.
Killing GPL, I find a dialup networking connect to the internet prompt.

As an experiment, I connected to my ISP first.  Now GPL joins the local
race
just fine.

How do I get rid of the attempt to connect to the network via dialup?

Are you selecting the LAN TCP/IP connection from the drop-down box on
client's multiplayer screen before attempting to connect?  If that
doesn't help, try creating a core.ini with the following two lines:

[ Communications ]
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

Sorry, I misread your post.  The easiest 'solution' would be to just
disable the 'connect to the internet as needed' functionality of DUN.

Brad,

disable the automatic dialing of your connections.
the "bad" part of the solution is that you always have start the dial-up
network  manually.

if you need further information go to

the question & solutions are under the topic "gpl, dun, lan"
