Is it me or is the computer even at rookie level very very good, I can't
if get in the top 15 when playing this game, any ideas on how to beat the
computer?

This is one "failing" of the game - there's no "easy" level for
beginners.   While this may be "realistic" it isn't fun, certainly
for the 12-year-old I saw trying it ...

The first thing to turn off to improve is the auto-brakes, as these
are too cautious and also prevent you going much off the racing line
for passing maneuvers.   Obviously car setups are important too
(see the manual, but the basic trick is to reduce wing and stretch
the gears on a fast track, and the opposite on a slow one).

I use full computer control to learn circuits - also ride with the
other cars to see what they do.

Two ideas:

1) Turn it off.
2) Get better!

Err, drive quicker?  ; )  Seriously, a good setup is essential to
compete at the higher levels
