GP2 AI Question

by p tenhe » Tue, 17 Mar 1998 04:00:00

Being relatively new to GP2 and at best a novice driver, lately I have
been starting races from the rear of the grid in order to try and gain
experience on how and where to try to overtake and pass.  It has been my
experience that it is relatively easy to pass the AIs up to about
positons 12 then the battle is really on and its a fight to the death to
gain a position. This is as it should be.  My question to you veterans
is what is it with the AIs in positions 25 to about 15.  Are they dumb
or just plane pissed for getting passed. It seems they will run over me
when I have to slow for slower traffic even though I have the correct
line or have properly protected my line through a corner.  Also, when
they cause me to spin they seem never to spin and when they do they seem
to be able to recover and regain the track several seconds before me.
Additionally, if I make a mistake(quite regular) I'll have one of them
stuck up my tailpipe or locking wheels with me.  Is my experience
unusual.  Maybe I need to get a life and quit imagining there is
intelligent life in a computer "GAME".

There are managers for gp2 that will let you alter the ai of the cars

Have you never seen "Reboot" on the TV - it is based entirely
on this premise (I only watch because my daughter likes it !!).

Anyway, I would guess that the back runners have generally poorer
AI than the front runners because this is what you see in real
life.  The "also-rans" do tend to make the most mistakes, be
the most difficult to pass even when being lapped, probably
due to inexperience, but also due to the fact that they have
no talent and have had to buy their seats rather than earn them.
All in all I'd say it was fairly accurate.
