Thank you, Ruud.
It's a lo-o-ong time since I did French at school. :)

And yes, I would imagine that "should of", etc., *would* appear strange to
one whose first language is not English.

42 is actually a cosmological constant (I think .... an Einsteinian 'fudge'
factor compensating for the anomoly between theoretical and actual
universe-expansion rate - if memory serves).

At some point I must find the time to sit down with DA's books, I tried
one of them quite a few years ago and it didn't "click" with me, however
I saw a documentary about the man a short while ago and immediately I
was like "how could I not like a book written by this man", his books
are on my wish list for b-day and xmas :-)

And yes, Monty Python do have the answer to almost everything, even how
to enjoy a funeral...

Douglas Adams' books are great, but the *best* version of the Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy is the original BBC Radiophonic Workshop radio play.
The acting and sound effects are still awesome.  Afaik, this was 12
episodes of a half-hour each.  Not sure where to get them.  There was a
revised version available on cassette (a friend had some of them), but, imo
it wasn't as good as the original--which was played on public radio in the
USA, in the 1980's.

A great starting point would be "Last chance to see" - about DA's world tour
of endangered species.
Lovely to read as the man had such a benign and magnanamous SOH.

I completely concur.
I just couldn't "get into" his books, but bought the set of CD's when they
were re-released a couple of year's ago following DA's death.

In my extremely humble opinion, listening to the radio series is the *best*
way to enjoy the H-HGTTG.

Goy, try Ebay.

Regards,
Bruce.

Actually - if you start appreciating his work, then get the lot!
Unfortunately, there isn't really that much..sigh. What a shame he passed
away so early. He was clearly not of this earth! I would recommend the two
Dirk Gently books, and also the post-mortem "Salmon of doubt". Some great
speeches and small notes there.

Oh, and I have the original BBC TV production of THHGTTG on VHS. It
absolutely rocks! Super low-budget, but hillarious. Almost perfect!

>   Won't the evil US Record companies try to sue you???

For the time being, it's not illegal to DL music and movies from the
internet for *personal* use in Norway, it's illegal to share those files
with others again and it will soon be illegal to DL as well

Simply put, the legal system hasn't caught up with the digital world we
live in just yet and these laws are from the days when people such as
myself would tape songs from the radio or a borrowed LP, so the clever
people who make our laws decided that the artists needed some kind of
compensation for this and put a fee on "recordable media", namely tapes,
the proceeds was to be distributed among artists according to certain
calculations

There's no fee on CD's or DVD's btw as they were not around at the time
these laws were passed :-), besides, no US lawyer in their right mind
would come to Norway to sue someone, they'd freeze their butts off
