It's egalitarianism gone mad.
Men (and for that matter, women) are not created equal ..... thank God, but
the trouble is that we live in a society so pussified, it can't face up to
the fact.
Why ?
Because it regards difference in a negative, hierarchical way - inter-twined
as it was historically, with class, race and gender discrimination.
Therefore, difference must be denied.
In endeavouring to counter negative discrimination, the
politically-correct/naive have succeeded only in eliminating qualitative
discrimination - a fundamental part of the education system.
Not everybody's academic - so why not sift them what is from them who ain't,
which avails the non-academically inclined of more vocational education.
This be the reason that we're falling at the first hurdle - and why kids are
entering secondary education without elementary competency in the three R's.
Back to rote, I say.
Nothing wrong with learning your tables - it's the easiest way of
programming memory.
Seems common sense is anything but, in education.
I mean, the very idea of leaving your kids' education to the sort of people
who end up teachers!

No one has mentioned the confusion between "break" as in "I think I've
broken something", and "brake" as in to slow down for a corner or obstacle,
etc. :)

Definately!

Remember that prat in legends League who always spelt always 'allways'?
That really pissed me off. That and the fact he would post in HTML and
never left a clear line between quoted text and his moronic replies!

But I could have forgiven him all of that if he'd been able to drive
more than two laps without crashing into me. Of course it was never his
fault tho'!

Does he still play IL2 with you lot?

Same in Norway, kids can't read worth a damn, in my shop there are
several signs that says the boxes on display are empty, since the boxes
keep disappearing I can only conclude that they can't read or are
actually out steeling empty boxes

How about "noone" instead of "no one"?

I am going back to college, and a couple of weeks ago, I was stunned
when in class one of my professors stated that no one would be
required to read out loud in class, due to the fact that numerous
students couldn't read.  WTH???????  This was a Junior level class,
WTH are the teachers teaching these kids?  Yet, it suddenly dawns on
me, most of these people post on usenet.  LOL

Wrong, dictionary breath, it's separate, most commonly misspelled as
"seperate".
