I guess most people have never worked in an engineering environment, so
they dont understand what goes on. I work for the leading sound card
manufacturer, and have been an engineer all my professional life. One
thing I have learned is, even after anouncing a product, you never give
full details on its functionality. Even the worlds best engineers have
problems getting some things to work as predicted or expected. So if
you say "My product does THIS and THAT", but for some reason, you can't
get THAT working exactly right, someone will have purchaced the product
soley for THAT, and you have to take the product back. And when a
company has to take a product back, by the time you pay for support
calls, restocking (if done), etc. it ends up costing three of four
times the original price of the product.
So, it is best to keep quiet, until the final product is shipping. It's
called CYA.
