T2 adapter???

T2 adapter???

by Todd Walk » Wed, 05 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Quick question.  I got a T2 for Christmas and it works great and I
love it.  Of course, I got the adapter with it and I have been using
it for all of my games such as GP2, Indycar 2, Nascar, and NFS.  I
couldn't find anything in the instructions that said anything about
what this gizmo is for or when to use it.  Can someone please
enlighten me?  Are there disadvantages to using it with some games?

Thanks,
Todd Walker

Here's what I got with my T2:  The adapter is for Win95 games.
Install it AFTER shutting down the computer.  Restart the 'puter, and do
the following:

Under "desktop", go to "my computer", "control panel", and then
"joystick".
Under "current joystick", select "joystick 1".
Under "joystick selection", go to "custom".
Under "custom", click on "2 axes and 4 buttons".
Click on "special", and then "is a race car controller".
Click on calibrate", and then follow the onscreen instructions.
When finished, click on test.  Then on OK.

If this doesn't work, then....call Thrustmaster...

Without the adapter the T2 uses two seperate joysticks for the steering
and the pedals. So steer left/right is joystick 1 x axis and
accelerate/brake is joystick 2 y axis. Win 95 can't cope with this
concept and requires the T2 to use a single joystick. So the adapter
switches joystick 2 y axis to joystick 1 y axis to kjeep win 95 happy.
Any T2 built after 11/96 don't need an adapter as the are wired as a
single joystick to keep win 95 happy. Hope this helps.

Hi,
The adapter is to be used when your game card or port does not read the
second joystick during calibration.....ie....the pedals.  Use of this
adapter gets around this problem.  I use it with my SB16 sound card game
port so that I can set my pedals in Nascar 2.

I believe you mean the axes-adapter (a short joystick cable between
computer and T2). The axes-adapter inverses the values of the Y-axes
(pedal).

The pedal is treated like Y-axes of a normal joystick.
Without the adapter the Y-values decrease when using the accelerator
pedal. Usually games want that the Y-value increases (increase speed).
There are no disadvantages. Only few games need decreasing
values for increasing speed. I have to remove the adapter when I play
Screamer I, or I can't play it with the pedals.

When to use:   First try new games with your standard configuration.
If game refuses to accept the T2 then retry it with/without the
adapter.

The newest T2 version doesn't need adapters any more.

T2 adapter???

Um, that's not really what it does.  Out of the box (at least on the
older models) the pedals and wheel were each on one axis of separate
joysticks: the wheel used Joy1 X-axis while the pedals used Joy2
Y-axis.  The problem lies in that some games and Win95 don't like Joy1
having only 1 axis, not allowing the controls to work.  The solution is
to use the adapter, which remaps the pedals to the Y-axis of Joy 1.
Joy 2 is now unused, except for the 2 panel mounted buttons.

The Adapter effectively rewires the T2 so that your PC thinks that is a
single Joystick rather than two separate joysticks.  T2s Manufactured after
November 16 do not need the adapter because they are wired as a single
joystick.
