Viper Racing - Engine Sounds?

Hey, I know, Viper Racing... what year is this?

I saw the sparkle of the jewel box on my shelf.
And after getting whipped (again) in GPL
(what year is this?), I loaded it up.

I have completely neglected this game!
Originally, I tried it right after the NFS series
of the time period and I coundn't cope.
But now, after GPL and N4, I dialed in a set-up
and ran some good laps. When I bought it, I
didn't even attempt to muck with the set-up.
Too bad about the lack of tire temps and
pressures though.

One question: is it possible to change the engine sounds?

I have some fabulous Viper samples made for SCGT,
that I'd like to import into VR.

I have all of the audio utilities to change sample
format and rate. How is it done?
Where are the sound files stored?

(BTW, I did a search of RAS on this, and
the mentioned links were dead)

Yeah, it's aged quite well, runs great at full res. (needs patch) on 3D
hardware... still looks good...  I love the stock Viper, it's so bouncy and
heavy, feels right... get the latest beta patch and you can run new hi-rez
cars, some of the best have been added very recently (yes, in 2002!)...

I read that Assen was released yesterday, and that was a good reason
to reinstall Viper Racing again.. Then I also noticed all the addon
cars and installed them. Damn good stuff, the Celica and 156 are
superb :)
There's even a plane in Viper so you can fly around the track :)

Since you start from a standing position, perhaps the 2nd time around your
speed was greater causing more downforce?  I notice this quite a bit with VR
that you can't really test a setup until your 2nd lap.

Are you sure tyre temps aren't modelled? I was driving it the other night,
can't remember the track, but it was being run backwards, and had a tight
3rd gear corner right at the end, out onto the long start finish 'straight'.
I found I had much more grip on the second time than the first.

Brilliant game! Especially the career mode - wish others had that.

As for the setups, I just wacked everything as stiff as possible, and things
seemed to improve nicely.

For the benefit of the community, lastest inofficial VR patch can be

And if you want to get rid of the annoying cd-check, start viper
racing.exe with the -nocanary parameter

In the options menu, it's displayed on the lower right-hand corner.

Unfortunately, I never spent much time with Viper.
I bought it late, and at the same time as Rally 2000.
Rally 2K consumed about five months until I
bought another batch of driving games.

Now, seeing the Assen track released, I loaded it
back up. But, I also have GPL, N4 and F1 2001
with the super FIA-GT mod (which just snatched
about five hours tonight).

That FIA-GT mod is amazing!

I took a screen-shot of an instant replay that
just blew me away.

It puts SCGT to shame. And that's a game that
I considered timeless.
Timeless because of the third-party community
and the apparent lack of interest of major
software developers in sports car sims.
What a shame.

Give me a GT2 Porsche and a flowing road-course!

(.............and I'll spin-out twice, melt the
tires by T3, and strip first gear.............)

S'funny, isn't it. I bought F1 2001, installed the GT patch, then started
playing Viper again! ;-)

I just downloaded a load of stuff that I didn't realise existed - some nice
cars, and the 1.2.1 patch.

Can anyone remember how you tell what version you're currently running?

Thanks.

(Just got into the top class, and am running 2nd overall in the first
season, about half way through. :-))
