Don't buy SoS. It sukz. Yes, it is that simple.

This thread talks about a small utility called "CTFJ!" that allows you
to adjust your joystick or wheel dead zone, and it REALLY makes a
difference with SoS. I spent a LOT of time playing with the SoS demo
this past weekend, and I ordered the full version on Friday. This
game may not be the tops when it comes to vehicle simulation, but as a
nice little historic racin simulation, it does seem like it can be a
lot of fun.
Here's where I ordered my copy of SoS:
http://www.softwarefirst.com
They're in the UK, but I ordered SoS from them for $19 (U.S.),
INCLUDING shipping.
I'll report back when I have the full version, but I think I'm going
to be spending a bit of time with this. It won't improve my GPLRank
or my F1CS2K Rank any, but it seems like it may offer the same kind of
fun that I found in NFSPU, which sounds like a good thing to me.

Seriously, I have better time to past then to waste my time on SOS37.

If anybody can help out with specs on these cars, it would be greatly
appreciated, BTW. That would make it MUCH easier for me to put
together some improved physics files, so if you want to pitch in with
some of the research, I'd be glad to turn out the "proper" physics
files.

I know it's not GPL, but the graphics and scenery are pretty good.
BTW, do you know if the Donnington track is accurate?

Maybe you, me, and MrLipid should consider starting an offline SoS
league, perhaps? That could add a bit to the game overall. Let me
know if you're interested -- I'm always up for some casual driving
diversion! <G>
BTW, I strongly recommend checking out the historic cars for SCGT as
well -- that looks like a lot of fun, and SCGT should run on just
about any system these days. From a track accuracy standpoint,
though, SCGT just won't be able to compete with SoS -- the Donnington
track in SCGT is the modern version, and there's a WORLD of difference
between it and the historic Donnington in the SoS demo (I prefer the
one in SoS, personally -- more "flavor" to it).

What do you need to know?

height
length
width
weight
Horsepower is also critical, and things like wheelbase and weight
DISTRIBUTION (and even aerodynamic drag) would be good as well, but
the vehicle's basic inertia parameters for yaw, pitch, and roll (i.e.,
the core of the vehicle's "physics" in SCGT) are calculated using
height, length, width, and weight. Any info beyond that is good, but
those four values (plus horsepower, I guess) are the most important.

Donington and Montlehry are not too bad. Tripoli is awful, taking you
through a giant sandstone arch!! And as for Avus, it never had any of
those turns on the straight sections.
