NR2002 shorten yellow laps?

Is there a way in NASCAR Racing 2002 Season to run fewer laps under yellow?
I like to have the yellow flag turned on as it let's the field regroup and
to give the AI cars a warning when an accident happens (it appears accidents
with the AI are compounded with yellows off since they tend to not slow for
accidents).

For on line racing, I like yellows because they are kind of  a punishment
for bad driving :) and they can add to the e***ment of having the field
get back together for the restart.

The only thing I'd like to change is to not have to run so many laps for the
yellow flag.  Is there any way to change that?

Thanks,
Russell

I don't know if there is a way or not, but I don't see how yellows punish
bad driving.  It gives the bad driver a chance to catch back up and repair
his car, where green flag conditions would leave him far behind.

If you went back into the Ras archives, you would find your question asked
about Nascar 2, Nascar 99, Nascar 3, Nascar4 and Nascar 2002.  To the best
of my knowledge, there never has been a solution to that question.  Yellows
are yellows....at least in Papy sims.

There isn't one and honestly, I dunno how it could be implemented.

Yellow flags work like this:

1 lap to allow the field to bunch up
1 lap to allow cars on the lead lap to pit
optional - 1 lap to allow cars not on the lead lap to pit
1 lap to allow the field to bunch up

There may be another lap at the end of that, but it's been awhile
since I've raced stock cars.

Certain things have to happen under yellow.  Slow down lap then lead lap
cars pit.  Next lap is for lappers to pit then 1 to go.  Can't really
shorten it much.  Seems to take a lap long on some tracks but not always.
Best way is to NOT have yellow to begin with :))

yellow?

As others have said, you 'need' all those pace laps..so the only thing you
can do is edit the track.ini. Under [ ai track ]
you'll see "pace_speed_limit_mph"....you can make that a higher speed...of
course, 120 mph at Bristol might be a bit excessive :-)

Why not sure let the AI drive the entire race ;)
As one that has race 100% races online I really don't see the issue here.  A
100% race is not that long especially if you run clean and limit the
yellows.  I think what Papy was trying to do is make a realistic sim and
thus the lack of arcade type features like auto pilot and save game.
I like things as is myself.  The ability to throw a yellow in an online race
would be good though, so that the race could run without yellows but the
boss has the option to throw one at will or at a set lap.

Actually, before N4 (with the new physics model) it was possible to throw
and clear both yellow and black flags AND IIRC you could set the yellow flag
laps within an INI file somewhere, though doing so usually screwed things up
since it takes part of a lap to get the pits open, then a lap for lead lap
cars to pit, another for non lead lap cars to pit and so on.

I think if you're using yellows, you just have to bite the bullitt and take
what the sim gives ya.

To each is own, your right.  A full race at Daytona is long, been there and
done that as I have on other tracks.
We all want different things from a sim.

Few here recognise the idea of OPTIONS.  And they think everyone has time to
run 4 hour races uninterrupted.

Your idea is a good one.

I support all manner of arcade and assistance OPTIONS as long as they can be
easily turned off and what you are left with is as close to realistic as
possible.

It sounds like tfe will begin to have some of those options..  maybe tfe
II will be even more optionable  :)   I like options too, except as long as
the multiplayer server can force off or on certain options.  Can't have
those kite-flying, tail-gunner, non-smoke, no-yellows types messing up a
good online session now can we?
(yesss I'm ducking... )  :>

Maybe punish wasn't the correct way to put that.  It seams to me that people
(on line) are more careful with yellows on because no one wants to cause a
yellow and have everyone else annoyed with them (wreckers excluded) .  At
least that's how I feel.

When not on line, I don't want to cause a yellow because I know I will be
"punished" by having to waste my time driving the caution laps.  Of course
if the yellow helps me, then I don't think of it as a waste of time :).
